I think I'm a goth at heart, but I don't dress like one. Does that make me one, or am I just being stupid, and I'm just another ordinary guy?

I dont think it really matters if you dress "normally". At least... to me it doesn't matter.

Read this it might help. It explains what from some of our point of views what Goth is. Hope it helps and welcome to the board.

despite other people's claims to the contrary, I look pretty normal most of the time.

Honestly, and to paraphrase Starving Student, working behind the counter at Hot Dog on a Stick wearing ubergoth makeup and fishnets looks silly.

I usually save the big guns for the clubs, and wear dark colors the rest of the time.

I don't think it matters.

Clothes are just one of the ways people try to express who they are. And not everyone has to use that form of expression.

Be yourself. By doing that you might find some aspects to you and some of your tastes aren't gothic. But also some that are. Maybe a majority that are.

hope ive been helpful...

I can't speak for others, but I really don't give a shit how someone decides to dress. As far as my preferences in clothes go, I've always prefered practicality over fashion (which explains why I am currently wearing jeans and a flannel shirt).
Anyway, dress to please yourself. If you are happy dressing "normal" then go ahead and keep it up.

Define "normal"...

Like Blood Rose said, most of the time I look pretty "normal"... though normal for me means mostly all black clothing, but kind of basic make-up, pants/skirt and top... just basic clothing items.

If I'm not going anywhere I don't goth up.

Obviously it's going to be a bit dubious if you dress like someone from a rap video... but you don't have to look like Gomez Addams or have your hair teased to Robert Smith heights all the time.

What do you consider "ordanary" and "normal". Do you mean normal goths being industrial (what you see on TV)? If so what you see on tv (in my mind) is all crap. I don't think many of us ware white makeup all over our faces or ware black leather jakets with band logos on them as we listen to nu-metal (idiot blasting his vocal cords out on a micrphone). That's just a posers interpritation of something they don't know anything about so I would say 95% of it is wrong.

What you dress like (in my mind) has very little to do with being goth at all. Though I know most goths ware mainly all black (myslef included). But, it doesn't have to be. To be goth is realy to listen to the music, think like one (I'm not going to explain go read some other fourms you will get answers as to what that means there) and consider your self one.

-Wargod =:) *does this make sence/sound stupid? if so ignore it*

You're not the first one to say this. Look around the forums, in particular the 'why are you goth' kinds of threads and you'll find that many people feel as though they 'came home' when they found the scene.

Given the results of the "What are you wearing right now?" thread over in fashion, it would seem that many of us go about our daily toils in fairly normal garb, which actually proves a theory that I have long held (and also validates my love for the comfort of cargo pants in the workplace). I'm having visions of legions of undercover-goths, with mesh tops underneath rugby shirts and hoodies hiding burgundy hair, creeping about the daylight world and waiting for the perfect time to strike. Strike at what, I'm not sure yet, but when I am . . . well, it'll be pretty cool. Trust me.

For lame-O classification purposes, I'm a corporate goth. I wear mainly black and dark colors to work, and usually jeans at home, and on the weekends and club night, I tend to bust out the "big guns" as it was perfectly put :) but I know a lot of people my age that are this way. We know in our hearts that we're goth, and know that the way we present ourselves doesn't matter, as long as it's not bling-blingin' gold and FUBU or whatever. I have no point, back to the corner with me...

*hiding with my Bauhaus cd and kitties from the big bad mainstream!* ;)

I agree with everyone here. I'm like BR and Lilith, I look pretty normal most of the time but i just dress in black/dark clothes.
