They are a cool Goth metal band, anybody here like them?

Well, I found them on a goth metal site, so I will continue to classify them as goth metal

How avantgarde? They're not very experimental. Nothing less than a good melodic black metal band.

Anyway, there is no such thing as GOTH metal, there's GOTHIC metal though.

With your attitude, you definitely haven't earned it, especially with your "screw you" and "you people around here take yourselves too seriously" comments. If you don't like it, leave. Simple as that.

However, if you are going to post on a goth forum where people actually know what they're talking about, you shouldn't get upset if someone points out that you have incorrect information. Instead, you should make a point to learn from it. In addition, you should learn to accept it when people don't agree with your opinion on things -- especially in a forum known for members who are honest about their opinions.

Whether you learn to do those things or not is your perogative. However, what you will learn to do (or suffer the consquences) is to cut the attitude and treat everyone with courtesy. Until then, let this first warning pip be a lesson.

Opera IX are amazing. They aren't a goth band, but they do a Bauhaus cover so I can see the connection.

I think people make the black metal connection with the harsh vocals. Well, I suppose a lot of people focus on vocals a lot, but the MUSIC really doesn`t have any elements of Emperor or DarkThrone in it.
I`d say the "gothic/avant-garde metal" tag fits them well.

And no, goth and gothic metal aren`t the same thing.... they virtually have nothing to do with each other, unless we`re talking about Love Like Blood, Virgin Black, or the Dreadful Shadows.

I have not heard of the music of Opera IX as of yet but I plan to.

Its perhaps best to go to band's website to get some additional insight as to the type of musicial direction that the band presents itself to be. Just because its listed on a Goth Metal site does not necessary make it so.

For example, Evanescence is listed on Goth Metal World. But on the official website that they have, they classify their music as "Widescreen Goth".

Rarely, would a band just classify itself and their music with just one word. Most would not lock themselves in a fixed style of music forever.

I do respect any band right to classify the music that they themselves create.

Also respect an individual right to classify a band that they themselves feel and hear. Others may hear Opera IX music as "Occult Metal", others "Death Metal", or others "Goth Metal" and so on. Does it really matter in the long run? Your mind, your ears.
