I've just got a copy of "Psychocult" by "The Merry Thoughts." They do a passable mid-term "Sisters of Mercy" impression. Ayone know anything about them, or have reccomendations of other of therirs, or similar bands, CD's?

Thanks in advance..

The first time I heard the merry thoughts I yelled at my friend for not picking me up a copy of the new sisters cd...The merry thoughts practically are the sisters of mercy. They may as well be. the sort of picked up when the sisters stopped playing as much. IMO Psychocult is their only pretty good cd though. They just sound too much like the sisters, and andrew has slightly different vocals that I enjoy much more.

Obviously I recommend the mission UK, The sisters guitarists.
hm...My favorite goth stuff of all time is Alien sex gang and Very very early sisters 80-83. Floorshow from that period is incredible.

Thanks for that..

I'll try and get hold of more Merry thoughts stuff though. I was a big fan of the sisters when they started out. Even if the Merry Thoughts aren't quite as litterate as Spiggy and crew, the sound is very close to the original, espcially when they get "anthemic".

Thats a good analogy fallen, there's obviously a few differences. The personalities of the members and I definetly believe andrew writes MUCH better lyrics then the merry thoughts. Though, something that is fairly intresting, is that apparently the sisters are expieriencing a revival of some sort? They've got six gigs across europe this summer, Their homepage was updated for the first time in something like 5 years, Im probobaly wrong here, but I read somewhere on heartland I believe, that andrew is off drugs??!!...:o /gasp. Heartland is a sisters community site, and it seems since last I checked there's renewed hope for the sisters tours and an album (yea right, I could only wish) I guess there's an extremely slim possibility you'll have some new studio sisters material in the future, and I have no doubts the concerts this summer will be bootlegged.

This article is also pretty intresting

Alice is becoming a club classic....?

I meant both but I somehow managed to type them into one name. I dont really want sisters clones period, I want the sisters. Hopefully their activity as of late signals atleast some kind of return

...Huh? Do you mean Alien Sex Fiend or Sex Gang Children, or is there another band that just sorta mixed their names? :I

I know nothing of the Merry Thoughts, but I'll try to ask my friend about them the next time I see him.

I've never heard of them, but there's been a lot of Sister's clones since they split up in '85 that have never been signed by a record company.
I think it's a shame that these bands can't come up with something original and build up their own fan base.

Do we really want original in Sisters clones though?

I'm just happy to get more music that takes me back to my old days of Goth in the mid-late 80's.

Original groups can do their own thing...
