Personally I wouldn't say Nick Cave is goth. He's got the gloomy lyrics and all, but the style is something way different. I went to his concert in september, actually only a small amount of the audience included goths.. The Birthday Party, on the other hand, I consider goth. Or at least post-punk. Release the bats!

I listen to quite a few metal and ambient/electro bands, but I do think the "goth" umbrella covers such a huge area of different genres that it`s hard to say what`s unrelated..... Some would say industrial/EBM is totally unrelated to goth, and others would totally disagree.....

Musically, I love anything with darkness or good atmosphere. Epic songwriting is also a bonus.

I also listen to a lot of classical from composers (if that counts as "bands") such as:

And of course, being a Tim Burton fan:
Danny Elfman

1. Gordon Lightfoot
2. Loreena McKennitt
3. Neil Diamond
4. Ozzy Osbourne/Black Sabbath (Ozzy's sold out to commercialism, though)
5. Pre-Black Metallica
6. Albioni (anything Baroque, for that matter)
7 Don Williams
8. Queen
9. Pink Floyd
10. 1970's Elton John

With the exception of the first three, these are pretty much tied with each other. I couldn't pick one over the other.
