Aside from the insanity, high taxes, and stuff like that? I'm very proud of my state's history concerning the Revolutionary War. We have the USS Constitution, we have the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, etc etc.

If you haven't guessed by now, I live in Taxachusetts.

Are all Americans as patriotic as they seem on TV?

Our government and their ass-boys have twisted what it means to be patriotic. They've taken it from loving America and doing what's best for the country (even when that means challenging the government) to blindly accepting whatever your told.

Anyway, I love my state (Alabama) for it's rich heritage and history--though that means understanding and working to change the bad parts. It's a naturally beautiful state. The people here are generally friendly, and we've got excellent football (Roll Tide).

Pennsylvania is quite lovely in some places (if you ignore the shitty roads), especially in the autumn. My hometown, Latrobe, is where Mr. Rogers was from--my grandpap even went to school with him--as well as the first banana split.

PA has a rich history--Gettysburg (haven't been there in 5 years, I'm dying to go again), and near where I'm from, the first county seat west of the Alleghanies, plus a fort and battlefield from the French and Indian War. Of course, there is lots more stuff down Philadelphia way, although I've never been in that corner of the state,

While Ohio has a corrupt cabal of neo-cons in the State government (Bob Taft, Betty Mongomery, Jim Petro, and the evil Bogeyman of the 2004 election, Ken Blackwell) there is a lot to be proud of.

-OSU Buckeye football ;)

-The diversity. Many people think of Ohio as a boring, flat "flyover" State full of boring people and farmland. Nothing could be further from the truth. You have bustling and ethnically diverse metropolitan areas such as Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, and Cincinatti with fantastic museums, cultural attractions, and strong ethnic neighborhoods that add a taste of the Old World. You also have the beautifully rugged Wayne National Forest in the southeast Appalachian region, the rich farmland of the northwest Black Swamp area, Amish Country, and the wine country (yup, Ohio wine) of the north central Lake Erie coastline and Lake Erie Islands.

Ohio is a great and beautiful state with great that I'm proud to live in. If anybody ever needs a tour guide to the State of Ohio, I'm your man ;)

Well. . .New Mexico is one of the two remaining states in the union where cockfighting is not against the law (the other being Lousiana). Not really something to be proud of. We're the only officially bilingual US state (which I'm much more pround of). We have North America's largest pow-wow (the Gathering of Nations-I've been to one), and the world's largest hot-air balloon festival (strangely, never actually attended one). NM also has the US' largest national forest.

When I got to 'high taxes' I knew what state you were talking about. ;)

I think I'm most proud of gay marriage being legal here.

The federal government in Washington has abysmal social policy, and neo-colonialism really sucks in the Middle East. New York has a lot of culture, and I can get a job. But, I am prouder of Canada because of its cheaper universities and almost free health care.
