Sig limit - Why so short?

I'm looking at the limit for the signature, and I'm wondering why it's so short.

At first, it wasn't a problem, because I didn't have much to put in it, but now, I find that I only have enough room for two inner-forum links. This is a problem for me because I have one more bussiness I'd like to open up, and I've got no room for the link.

I personally think that the sig size limit should be increased to either 600 or 900.

Just my oppinion.

Well it means that you have to get creative with what you want in your sig line.

Besides that, if we had sig lines that stretched on for miles, it would slow the boards and be very very annoying to everyone else.

Well, it doesn't help that the links are exccedingly long.

Edit: On second thought, I have a better Idea.

I find excessivly long signatures are very annoying and I assume other people on here feel the same. But maby the limit should be raised to 400 characters instead of 300.

Hey think of the bright side. You can only put 165 characters into a SMS. ;)

Still, it'd be nice to be able to have a slightly bigger sig.

And to be able to have images in your sig.

What you could do is let each member have up to 3 or 4 registered pictures that would be allowed in their sig. That way, you could limit the size and file size.

Or maybe be allowed to upload your own smilies. Like 5 to a person, and they have to be about the same size as the smilies you guys have already.

Oops, I'm getting off topic.

The best things about this forum is that no pictures are allowed in the signature, and that the avatars must have a fixed size!!!

Agreed.

Nightmare King: If you want to express yourself creatively around here, do it in the content of your posts, not in the content of your sig line.

And by hte way, images are NEVER NEVER EVER EVER allowed in sig lines here. The moment they surface, they are dealt with.

There's really no need for flashy sig lines. Having the max be 300 characters means that you have to do two things: be creative and selective. And honestly, there's no real need for excessive doo-dahs all over people's posts. Whenever I see that elsewhere, I usually take it as a sign that the person doing it is a weak poster who has to go 'look at me! look at me!' in order to feel vindicated.

Obviously in a text based forum, that's completely unnescessary.

Ditto. I can't stand it when people feel the need for gaudy images and shit in their sigs. It's unnecessary. If you want to say something so badly in your sig than just post it.

*agrees with Blood Rose*

Sure, images are pretty at times, but I could name a few sites where you could drool over eye candy... (Deviantart being one of them)

As a friend of mine put it: "this is a forum, not an art gallery"

Also, I used to be a member at a forum where the sig limits were seemingly endless... Granted, people posted some hillarious stuff in their sigs, but it just made forum browsing needlessly annoying. Think about it, would you want to read practically a page's worth of someone's signiature? I know I wouldn't.

SpaceD Ace - despite forum anecdotes, doesn't seem to contribute anything newsworthy
