Well, as you probably all know by now, Spidy's probably the member with the worst computer. Now I have a new problem, except I don't know if it's just me or if this has been happening to other members.
You see, half the time I click either on a thread catagory (such as General Discussion) or a thread I get this message:
"Sorry, the server is too busy to handle your request, please try again in a moment
You are NOT logged in "
The thing is that I'm always logged in and what's more is that some windows will be working fine while others won't access the threads (meaning the server's not all that busy...or is it?...). Is this technical, is this happening to anyone else...or should I class it as an effect derived from the "flying computer" incident?

It's to do with the boards, either because they're overloaded or Lilith & PreZ are doing upgrades, maintenance etc.

I'd like to know how it is that you having a crap computer would give you a "server busy" message? I mean, logically that makes no sense.
The 'you're not logged in' seems to be its standard response when the server is busy. And when the server says it's busy, then it really is busy, regardless of whether or not some threads work and others might not, it might just have processed one faster than another.
At the moment the 'server busy' stuff is because PreZ switched mod_perl back on, which means the boards are faster than they were, but it increases memory load on the machine. It's a bit of a catch-22... turning mod_perl off would decrease memory usage, but slow down forums, keeping it on increases forum speed but puts more strain on memory.
It's one of the more frustrating things about the forums, and at least for me personally a source of aggravation on a regular basis.

As lilith mentioned, I've been playing with the web server to try and make the forums more efficient.
I also just upgraded the database itself, and decreased its resource usage. Though usually that message comes up during 'high event' times, ie. when stuff like backups, or other regular events take place.

I had figured you must have been tinkering with the server and such, as i had noticed there would be maybe 3 memebers and up to 4 guests at the time, and i figured the server could easily handle that. Any thoughts on when we can expect the server to stop sending these messages to us?

I thought you guys were upgrading too, I haven't been able to access the boards at all for 2 days so I just decided to wait it out and see.

Maybe if the G-ads work out for you, you could invest in a vB.
I use it and it really is a great peice of software, less server intensive, and has a hell of alot more features (including an option for paid membership, so you can reward people with more features if they upgrade)
Wow, i sound like a vB marketer. sorry.

Yeah, only we use Postgres, not MySQL, and seeing as that only runs on MySQL from what I can see on the site, that's a strike against that particular software.

You need to read the pinned topics in the General Discussion Forum because it's all answered there. You cannot make new threads until you have made at least ten posts which you have done anyway so you can make threads now unless there's a fault somewhere.

It's okey, a lot of people miss those. I recommend you read them anyway as they answer a lot of questions about various things concerning the board including some things that might not have occured to you.
