My mom took me and my boyfriend to Goodwill on Wednesday, and I had the best Goodwill experiance of my life. Now, I usually love that place, but last time I went was by far the best time I've ever stepped foot in the store. I bought two beautiful dresses, both were either crushed-velvet, or resembled it, and very long, reaching to the floor. One of them is a rich blood-red, with fabric-covered buttons running all the way down the front in the center, and with lace-down strings in the back, and long sleeves. It looks like a dress that Arwen would wear. My other dress is a bit less extravogant, as it is a dark faded purple, and the torso is a stretchy gathered fabric, I don't know what it is called, and it is much more plain. Both of them were only 6-7 dollars each. I also got a neat black hat, that has the label "Limited" on the inside of it. I can't really describe that hat, but it was 2-3 dollars, I believe. As I told my boyfriend, being in Goodwill is me being in my natural habitat. :)

Sounds really nice...and oh so cheap. I've never heard of this place. Does it specialise in gothic clothing or what?

No, it's just a thrift shop. Like the Salvation Army. It carries everything from maternity dresses to old junky electronics and chewed up furniture.

Yeah I love thrift stores. I found this really pretty black lace skirt for only 4.00! It's my favorite skirt that I own...

Oh, gotcha there, anatheema. Anyways, that's weird. I always thought Goodwill was kind of a charity thing like using food stamps or something. Now that I know though, I think I'll give it a try!

I have found some gorgeous stuff there too! My thrift store of choice is a Salvation Army near me.. a few weeks ago I found some beautiful dresses, one a floor length purple velvet with silver clasps at the straps and the other a black with silver sparkles floor length dress - it was 1/2 off Thursday... I got them BOTH for $7.... it was wonderful!!:D I find that it's good to frequent them on a regular basis, because you never know what you'll find! Biggest regret I have... there was a gorgeous Chinese black laquer coffee table that I'd seen and totally coveted, but as I live in a studio apartment I told myself I didn't have the space... it was a total steal... I have thought about that table continually ever since! ???

Oh good, I thought for a minute I was the only one who liked that store. I always find a lot of interesting things at the store in my town, it's really really surprising considering it's like Hicksville USA

The thing I find with Goodwill's or other thrift shops is you have to keep going back every few weeks. Most times I won't see a single thing I'm interested in, but that gem may just be lurking somewhere. If you don't keep returning to look for it, someone else will find it first.

^^ Also you have to really search through the racks. Because on Saturdays, stuff is everywhere! And a lot of people I know get frustrated and just pick up anything they see. But I always search every nook and cranny...

...that's the only way to do it... I wouldn't have as many trenchcoats as I do now if it weren't for "spelunking" at the Salvation Army... by god I love that place... Goodwill isn't so bad... but they never seem to have anything new around here...

Goodwill and the Salvation Army are the best! I found a ballroom dress with a black velvet bodice top and a deep blood red bottom for only 15 bucks at Goodwill. I also found a beautiful Chinese silk jewelry box for 99 cents at a Salvation Army.

I went to Goodwill yesterday and found this ADORABLE black skirt made from stretchy material that fits realy well. It has the coolset lace trim on the end. $3.00! I also found this very cool suede, burgundy, belt-thing that was $.99. Totally worth the trip!:p

we go to Hope House, which is like the same. i just went there yesterday, and got a wicked black pinstriped pleated skirt and a stretchy semi-seethrough shirt. the whole outfit was only three dollars, very wicked. can you believe thrift stores have sales...
my favourite purchase of all time though is an authentic black women's army jacket. it is SO awesome and has really cool silvery engraved buttons. : )

goodwill and the salvation army are the two biggest thrift stores here too. however, i find that the best bargains are often found in little community op-shops, like ones run by chruches etc, and stuff from there is much cheaper, even though there may be less variety. so always keep an eye out for those little thrift stores...:p
