Imaginary) along with the other bands like Siouxsie and the banshees and I don't think Evanescence is that bad in fact I use to like them before they even got popular. Damn that was a long run-on sentence! Well I have their album Fallen and I've heard it all and I'd say those song are sophisticated enough to be called goth. I know that for the normal idiots that like her just because she's famous do not care for anything else but the sound it makes. That's why I hate Heavy Metal.
Ugh.........stop it!!!!!!!!!!!!! That band is doing nothing that hassn't been done before by better musicians. Hijacking topics is rude.

I agree, djVampira
What does Evanscence have to do with Techno and Industrial music?
That band is not Techno, Industrial, Goth, or Christian Rock. Yes, I agree they have the goth look sometimes and the "christian-sounding" song titles (ex. "Give Unto Me" and "Exodus"), but they use these as a marketing tools to sell their music and the have vast legions of fans to attend their concerts.
In interviews they themselves say that they are not a goth band or a christian rock band. What they are good at is presenting themselves as something that they are not.
My apologies to the moderators and to the forum for getting off topic.

I'm not going to go on about industrial (read all the other posts) but I will say a bit about techno.
All the electronica that has been talked about seems to just be the radio-friendly commercial stuff (just like how some people hear stuff like fear factory, Rammstein etc and say "that's what industrial sounds like" when the're not totally correct)
There are a lot of techno artists that actually play live (I can't remember names, because I saw a lot of it in a docco). Experimentation exists inside electronica, otherwise how else would deep-trance etc have emerged.
Both industrial and techno have a tendency to be stuck in a timewarp: using exclusively old analogue gear and shunning digital (not allways the case...as always)
Genesis P 'oridge (throbbing gristle) was both one of the pioneers of industrial and also 'acid house' (yes one of the many industrial artists that have done techno)...and I think what I've written may make no sense, so I'll stop.

This may be considered nitpicking, but techno is just one subgenre of electronica, among others such as house, drum & bass, IDM, breaks, etc. As such, acid house is not techno, it's house. Trance is sometimes listed as a further subgenre of techno and sometimes not. I'm no expert on this, just pointing out that "techno" and "electronica" do not mean the same thing.

Techno music has a lot of those synth sounds that are like, "bop bop bop" or "blip"... Hard to describe, but I always think of techno in terms of B sounds. Boom Boom bop bop... And also, most techno songs I've heard lately have been in in major keys.

Industrial is music usually with sharp beats with an orchestration of machinery to back it up.
You want techno, make a song on Sound Club.

I have a few questions related to topic of music genre as well. First of, you listed Android Lust as an Industrial band. And although I'm not disagreeing with that fact that Android Lust is a Industrial band, I was just wondering, the band is part of the Projekt label and they advertise Darkwave music. So is Android Lust Darkwave or Industrial? It's just that get so confused easily with all these different names. Like what exactly is the difference between Black Metal and Doom Metal? And now I'm hearing of something called Folk Goth. Could anyone enlighten me on some of the differences of all these genres?

sadistix: When you quote a post as long as that you really should cut it down first to an appropriate size or not quote at all. Just quote the relevent bits.

Hoping that I don't get my head bitten off for bringing up a slightly stale topic, I'll post my own views.
I second that, blckencht. Another thing that kind of irks me is when somebody quotes the person who posted right before them; sometimes more than just one sentence too, even the entire paragraph. It's rather pointless- the thing has just been said, why repeat it again? Nobody's forgotten what you're talking about yet.
Whoa, did all that make sense, really? Oh well, I know what I mean. Back to the original topic...
How would you guys classify the following bands:
-Front242
-Velvet Acid Christ
-Decoded Feedback
-Suicide Commando
-Bunnydrums
-Faith and the Muse
-Hanzel and Gretyl
-Kmfdm
-Juno Reactor
-Haujobb
-Assemblage23
-Fictional
-Covenant
Sorry if any of them have been discussed earlier, I haven't read through all the lists yet.

Note: after going back and looking through Vivi's original list, I scratch off Front242 from mine. If they're industrial though, I'm guessing many of the other's above are too.

First of all I would like to say that I had a hard time understanding your post. Second, there is a huge huge difference between electronica, techno and industrial...
Try listening to some Tromsø- or Bergenwave electronica, and you will understand what this genre of music sounds like...
