Post Ok, calling Germany
Hi Folks, I know we have lots of German Boards and you probably prefer to talk in English, nevertheless I would like to make some friends who are not too far away. Is there anybody out there?

Hey that's near by :D and we share the same "cultural nation" perhaps. That means we all had to read Friedrich Dürrematt at school. Did you?

Think my post got lost somewhere in the net...as my laptop signed me out of the page while posting.

Anyway, here I go again

We did have Dürrenmatt of course, "besuch der alten Dame" and "die Physiker"
Read Friedrich Glauser "Matto regiert" if you want to read some really confused Swiss author, after I read it, i wasn't sure whether I was the one outside or inside the insane asylum.
We had all the German classics, especially Goethe and Schiller. What would my German teacher have done without the German authors and poets, I ask myself.

Switzerland and Germany are culturewise a lot closer than many people would like to admit, i think. (German speaking area of course :) )

Fortunately they reprieved us with Goethe and Schiller, so I could enyoy them privately. I was 20 years out of school, before I started to read Heine again. In the Feuilleton it doesn't matter where an author or musician comes from. It's nice to have some German languaged neighbours, so we can partially imagine how the anglo-saxons feel, even if they are Celtic.

What's up with gothic in Switzerland? There were two Helvetian websites who published my poems once. But I lost contact.

Have to admit I'm not too busy on the Swiss front of gothic. I have my friends in Germany. Forum wise, I don't know, I never looked for it.

There are some clubs around, one I know in Zurich, has gothic evenings once a week I think. Berne seems to be bigger on it though, they have a total of three gothic shops...Zurich has one or two form what I know. it exists but it's not as big as in Germany. (Or I just look in the wrong place ;) )

I'm running out of clubbing after ten intensive years it's time for a break again. The old magic is gone. Which boards did you join? I think there are not much any more in Germany. But maybe I'm not informed any more. England - Switzerland sounds interesting, where do you live? How is the scene in England? Are you in contact with?

Have you ever been to festivals in those ten years? If so, are they worth going?
I do hope that the old magic comes back for you (if you want it back, that is)

I signed up to a cyber forum, I only read through the others, like the dark section radio.

I'm not very much in contact with the scene in England, but neither am I with the one in Switzerland, my main contacts are Germany. England seems to be more established than Switzerland though from what I see online. There's some odd shops here and there and some clubs in Switzerland, haven't found anything really big though (must admit, I didn't go looking for it)
Where as there's bigger shops and clubs in England. When I finished my studies here I will def try to get in contact with the scene in England as it does seem pretty good.

Good to hear that the scene in England is doing well. I don't know much about. There was a lot of music from there in the eighties. To answer your question, no I never visited a gothic festival, the last ten years. I was on some black festivals in the eighties, where I saw the Cure, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and other bands like this. But I had an occupational accident 15 years ago, so I can not spend the whole night on my feet. But I enjoyed the empty clubs when the others were at the WGT. I prefer a good gig of a single band and some dancing afterwards. You might should visit the WGT. There are dozends of concerts in different locations of Leipzig. 20 000 people come each year. Here are some pictures from 2011. WGT 2011 There are also some information about different festivals in Germany available, but the M'era Luna is missing. I don't know what your favourite style of music is. So you should better make your own decison. I hope you enjoy your studies.
