 Re: Female Vocaled Bands
Although I don't personally consider OT3P as a female fronted band.. I'm putting them down. I just mostly lurk in this thread mentally writing down names to search.

 Re: Female Vocaled Bands
So long as you are searching... I've just become acquintated with Tara Vanflower. She use to be the vocalist for Lycia (oh yeah. Lycia too). I've sampled some songs on iTunes, and her voice is very creepy (the last track on her album, My Little Fire-Filled Heart - called "Tigerlily" - just gives you the feeling that some ghost kid is watching you when your back turned in an empty room in some old house). >_> I also found this band called Tapping the Vein. From what I hear from their Myspace page and iTunes samples, they do both gothic rock and metal, so, everybody wins. Woo. Here's their page: http://www.myspace.com/tappingthevein

Yeah Tara is awesome. I have a thing for 'ghostly' sounding vocals and shes the master of that, as is Mike from Lycia as well. Tara wasn't on the earlier Lycia albums though. She didn't show up until The Burning Circle and then Dust album, but her work with Lycia is worth every penny.

 Re: Female Vocaled Bands
There are some nice bands I have, but some of them are really brutal Arkona - Pagan metal Severed Heaven- Death Metal 6th Awkening- Metalcore Otklonenie - Metal/Deathrock Eths - French Heavy Metal The Agonist - Metalcore (the lead has a voice that is soo much better than Amy Lee's!!) D.A.M.N.- Death Metal Malsain- very demented, Kampfar-like metal Bloodshoteye- Hardcore, Metalcore The Project Hate MCMXCIX - Deathmetal mashed up with Industrial Ghengis Tron- Industrial Metal Hanzel und Greytl- Industrial Metal Fall river- Metalcore Uppercut- Thrash metal Orphan Hate- Altetnative Death Metal Psychobolia- Deathcore Here are the older ones- Holy Moses Demonic Christ Merlin Warlock Thorr's Hammer Nuclear Death (Very hard to cope with) Acid King And the lead singer of Kittie did a song with Kataklysm called "It turns to rust" and it makes me wonder why she can't get a clue and scrap her has-been band.

In the broad spectrum of electronic and new age music, Enigma and Delerium. But they have done music that falls into the dark ambient category.

Android Lust is very nice in the Electronic area. I strongly second 45 Grave, and Eva O did some rather cool songs as well.

 Re: Female Vocaled Bands
Personally I can't get enough of Sunshine Blind's singer, Caroline Blind. It's a good band to listen to if you like the goth of the 90's like Big Electric Cat. Other good female fronted bands would be the fore mentioned Monica Richards but in Faith and the Muse, The Shroud (although I have not heard of anything they've done recently), Faithful Dawn ( I think the new incarnation is called Novus), and Mephisto Walz.
Last FM is a good place to hear some of the samples. I would recommend giving Sunshine Blind's, "Burned at the Stake" and "Regoddless" a listen.

 Re: Female Vocaled Bands
I went to see Otep live.
Thankfully it was free cuz it was terrible. Kinda reminds me of the sensations Kittie & Alanis Morriset were when they first came out.
I don't listen to a lot of female fronted bands because they always seem like they're trying too hard. They wanna prove they're tough like the guys so they write a bunch of bitchy songs and sound as original as Hole.
I've heard that Genitorturers are good(and I'm surprised no one has mentioned them).
I like Concrete Blonde(just not that sucky 'joey' song).

 Re: Female Vocaled Bands
^I think you just described the voice of Tapping the Vein. Gothic rock and darkwave female voices aren't really suppose to be aggressive (hence, they usually have an ethereal voice). But even in a lot metal girls aren't aggressive. Well, not in gothic and symphonic metal mostly (which is what I mainly listen to). I don't really listen to stuff with "bitchy" lyrics either. I don't like music that lectures (unless it's political hip hop) or whines. I think that's why I like, well, the undeground/unpopular stuff. Anywho, Jack or Jive. I first found out about them when I was looking up music on iTunes to make a faerie-themed playlist (teehee!) and I found their song "Dryad". I didn't look into their other stuff for some reason... But I recently started using last.fm, and they have the band profiles that the almighty Wikipedia failed to present. And there I found out that Jack or Jive is actually a new age/ethereal/dark ambient husband and wife duo from Japan. Now I want to look into them again.

I've recently gotten into Sopor Aeternus because of Anna's unearthly voice.

No idea if they've been mentioned, but Nightwish ~ Although, I prefer them in their pre-Dark Passion Play days... I know they aren't technically goth, however, I know a heck of alot of goths who adore them, and when they played here, the entire concert was just full of goths.

I used to love them, but Annete (I think that's her name) annoys me now. Tarja was so much better. But I'm nit so much in to the "Gothic Rock" as into the ladies of Gothic Music and Metal, respectively, who can put the men to shame. Call me sexist hehe I've found some other bands, like Masterlast and Crisis. I also like La Danse Macabre du Vampire from Theatres des Vampires.

Call me sexist hehe I've found some other bands, like Masterlast and Crisis. I also like La Danse Macabre du Vampire from Theatres des Vampires. Yeah. I try to move on from the old Nightwish vs. new Nightwish debate, but I really prefer Tarja over Anette. Hell, I think that Nightwish could have done fine without a classical voice, just not Anette's voice type (I always thought that they would do good with a more, heavenly voice, like Sharon van Adel's voice type). Honestly, she sounded better in her old band, Alyson Avenue. Whatever. Dark Passion Play wasn't made of fail, but, I did buy the special bonus disc version for a reason (instrumentals >_>). Personally, I prefer "classic" Nightwish: Angels Fall First - Over the Hills and Far Away. Anywho, I think Tarja as a solo artist has great potential. Her album My Winter Storm was pretty fantastic, because it wasn't just metal, but classical crossover and a bit of ethereal wave (plus, MWS is the only album under the Nightwish umbrella that I could describe as "gothic"). I could see her doing neo-classical darkwave or even ethereal wave. Anyanywho, here's some more goth-based female vocaled bands that I've been listening to: Heaven Falls Hard The Mirror Reveals (did I mention them already?) L'Ame Immortelle (hmmm, they do darkwave and industrial, but, they're really more described as Neue Deutche Harte, which is a sub-sub genre of European industrial metal) Amber Asylum (awesome neo-classical darkwave/dark ambient band) Diva Destruction Cinderella Effect (a solo project started by one of the singers from Blutengel. So far, she sings covers of other dark songs) Stone 588 Hungry Lucy Andra Dare
