Given what's happening today, I will add this little gem of info about my personal philosophy:

Censorship under any form, whether perpetrated by the various governments, corporations or by the media itself, is a blight upon humanity and an affront to any semblance of morality, whatever your personal moral code may be. People have the right to say what they wish, regardless what they might wish to say.

Does this mean that there is nothing that should not be said? Of course not. Ask anyone who regrets what they have spoken after it has already been uttered. Ask survivors of Auschwitz-Birkenau who wish the Nazis had never swayed so many with their words. There are words too harmful to be uttered. Does that mean it's up to a government to tell us what not to say? Should it be a decision made by corporate giants or politicians who grow fat off the masses?

No. Censorship of any sort should come from within the individual - listening to that little voice within your mind screaming, "I wouldn't say that!", for example - or from the masses - the people of 1930s Germany, for instance, should never have tolerated any politician to utter the sort of racist filth pushed by Hitler and the Nazi party.

Would such self-moderation be perfect? No. Nothing will. There is no such creature as a "perfect system". Censorship moderated by the citizenry is still better than allowing corrupt bureaucrats or corporate moguls to tell us what should or should not be said.

I fucking hate how SOPA is gonna fuck up the whole internet for everyone on the planet, not just US citizens. I mean censorship for like porn and stuff I can deal with, but they're gonna fuck up wikipedia and google too. Talk about oppression.

Only if it passes. SOPA is DOA, in all honesty. PIPA still has a shot, but it's beginning to get negative press, so it probably won't last, either. Even if one of these bills passes either the House or the Senate, POTUS has stated that he's not supporting either bill any more. (It's too close to election time for him to fuck up his reputation by doing so.) If we hold him to that, either bill could pass the House or Senate, but he could refuse to sign either into law. He could veto. He could issue an Executive Order blocking either. He could toss it to the Supreme Court and let them rule on the constitutionality of either. The bills aren't likely to become law.

That doesn't mean a similar law won't ever be passed. We just have to hold the line this time, let them know we won't let it happen now. "This far, no further!" When it happens again, we hold the line then, too. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.

If Obama approves them it will most probably end his political career all together. I mean online piracy is already illegal, but censoring the most useful websites in existence? Fuck. That. I hate politics. I should rule the world.

In a nutshell: what would you do as Empress of the Earth?

Make everyone get stoned for a week.
Make all military obsolete, and declare world peace.
Make fat and rich people donate food to the starving people in third world countries
Legalize gay marriage and weed
Lock up all serial killers, terrorists, paedophiles, rapists, violent assholes and animal abusers, for good.
Send all nuclear weapons to space, never to be found again.
Allow online piracy of course. Every musician I've spoken to thinks music for free is a good thing. And as if movie studios need more money.
Stop censorship of swear words
Attempt to provide more jobs for people.
Listen to students when they say their teachers are paedophiles and nazis and get their teaching license revoked (this needed to happen sooo bad at my high school)
Get rid of all really unnecessary laws.

I would beware of sending the nukes into space. Try to aim them away from any objects, lest they hit a star and possibly send it into a nova state, or lest they hit some other planet, which would be really pissed off at us and might want to kick off an interstellar war.

send it on a direct route out of our solar system. if it were to hit a star it wouldn't be for hundreds of years, and the closest star (other than the sun) is 1 lightyear away so we won't have to worry about that :p

That, of course, assumes there are no technologically-advanced lifeforms on an Earth-sized world orbiting Proxima Centauri that might want to see us destroyed after we obliterate the red dwarf they orbit.

Well according to something I heard on stargate (reliable source of all scientific information) the world will be uninhabitable by 2100, if we don't blow ourselves up by then.

That's more of a liberal estimate. Science fiction always tends to take either the best or worst case scenario and hype the shit out of it.

Oh I read on Gagadaily that Obama isn't supporting SOPA anymore. Hopefully this is actually true.

It is. He announced that over the weekend. Congress is pulling support of SOPA, too. PIPA's the real threat now.
