 Re: Communism
Guess I am sort of lapsing back into what I know to be a futile discussion, but I can't resist making a certain point in this connection. I cannot point out enough that critical thinking is by no means discouraged in North Korea. In considering the culture centered around Kim Jong Il in particular, we should surely ask ourselves what political line that leadership corresponds to. What principles is Kim Jong Il advancing? Once again: Quote: 1. The people must have independence in thought and politics, economic self-sufficiency, and self-reliance in defense. 2. Policy must reflect the will and aspirations of the masses and employ them fully in revolution and construction. 3. Methods of revolution and construction must be suitable to the situation of the country. 4. The most important work of revolution and construction is molding people ideologically as communists and mobilizing them to constructive action.
--Kim Jong Il, from On the Juche Idea You'll notice right away that independent thought is an indispensable component of the juche idea that guides the country and its politics. Western observers who screen everything they "learn" about North Korea through the lens of their own hostile press might not notice this, but the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is a far more democratic society than America or any other 'Western democracy'. Unlike here, where democracy simply means going to the polls and casting a rather pointless ballot every couple of years or so, in North Korea democracy is experienced meaningfully on a daily basis, from how schooling is conducted to how workplaces are managed to how the production and distribution of society's needs is decided to how communities are policed and beyond. Each of these things involve the full and active participation of whole communities there. The people are brought into the mastery of society. Or let's take the tour Kim Jong Il has been on of late. He's been touring the country, going from workplace to workplace, listening to the problems and the criticisms that the people have and addressing those issues in a personal, on-the-spot way. Given that the leadership of the country corresponds to all this and more (including, as pointed out before, new theoretical contributions to the science of communism), it's hardly shocking to find that Kim Jong Il is widely loved by North Koreans or that the leadership of that society sees him as an outstanding individual among their ranks whose example deserves to be promoted and celebrated.

 Re: Communism
Hi, Communism is a social structure in which classes are abolished and property is commonly controlled as well as a political philosophy and social movement. Communism is the doctrine of the conditions of the liberation of the proletariat. In Principles of Communism, Engels left three questions unanswered. This is the useful information about communism.

Yay, one whole person who might not be openly hostile to the whole idea of communism.

It's implementation however licks Lenin's wax testes because everyone who's tried to implement it cut-out the bits they didn't like or changed it some other way. Funnily enough the same applies to capitalism. Under "true" capitalism all those failing banks and companies bailed out by taxpayers would have been left to sink without trace, allowing more vibrant companies to fill the vacuum. Instead they were deemed "too big to fail" and propped-up with unearned monies. Humanity as it stands cannot embrace communism because humanity is a dualistic creature torn between altruism and selfishness. Our animal instinct for self preservation is constantly at war with our desire to build and maintain strong, egalitarian communities. You won't see a glorious Communist utopia of altruism and equality until this conflict can be reconciled.

Actually, Trag, I think it could work. IF we were all drugged-up like the hippies in the 60s! thetragicclown wrote: Armed Communist Pikachu wrote: Yay, one whole person who might not be openly hostile to the whole idea of communism. Note, I'm not asking for the actions of fallible people, I'm asking you to list what parts of the ideology meet this criteria.
