Re: Scary stuff from your town
I was lost and found myself driving down a dirt road once. I came to a chain link fence with razor wire across the top. There was a large sign that said something like "Smile! You're about to get shot!"
Someone told me about that place, but finding it myself was interesting. I still don't know what it is. (This is probably not creepy at all to people in some countries/ parts of the US.)

Re: Scary stuff from your town
I know of three different cemeteries in the area that have been used to dump murder victims in the last 30-40 years. Don't know of any "ghost" claims about those areas though.
There's also a mountain ridge not far from here, but I forget what town its near. All the trees on one side of it are dead. Apparently the area was once used for zinc & nickle mining, a process that released some chemical into the air that killed every piece of vegetation for a few miles around. Just recently have smaller plants started to come back but all the trees you see there are dead. In passing by its a strange looking place, as if the side of the ridge had been crop dusted with agent orange.

It cruises around 2of the graveyards so that anyone can have a chance to jump off exactly where they like in the cemetary (flag stops not designated stops). It keeps doing this back and forth all day long. To and from the graveyards, it's only reason for being it seems.
To most people this would be a scary fact, to me though it seems like a gothic dream come true so I dunno. I'd love to take a ride on that bus, I love visiting cemetaries. Can't you find anything about it's function? It does sound a bit weird if there is a bus that's just there to take people to the various cemetaries. This is the bus info, sorry for the URL I dunno how to Hide it. http://www.hamilton.ca/NR/rdonlyres/850 ... Route9.pdf

Re: Scary stuff from your town
Thank you, Golomen. Maybe I should visit your town someday I've been studying Norrønt for some time now, and I've gotten the point where I can translate the old sagas. Did you know there was dragons in old norse mythology? I didn't, but the Midgard Serpent makes much more sense now. I stumbled upon the saga about Amlet* and Fegge while reading epic stories about the Vikings. Until now I've only known Shakespeares version. Anyway ... king Fegge is thought to be buried on Mors. My parents often took me the place he's buried when I was younger. We used to collect sea shells there. Amlet is buried elsewhere in Jutland, somewhere called Ammelhede. *Hamlet, for those of you wondering. There is actually an old myth connected to Fegges burial ground. It's said that there is a sword hidden somewhere, and if you are to retrieve that sword, no more things can be harvested from the soil on Mors. People would essentially die from hunger. Not scary as the ghost story I told before, I just thought I wanted to share it here.

Re: Scary stuff from your town
I must live in the un-scariest town in the world. The only spooky thing I can think of is the third floor of a local business building. I went up there once with some coworkers (our office was on the second floor), and we found skeletons and a coffin, as well as suits of armor and swords. Apparently, it was an Odd Fellows lodge back in the 1920s, and all that stuff was just left there.

Re: Scary stuff from your town
The most scary place in my hometown... Well that must be the 10 or so centuries old church, and the stuff beneath it. My hometown is located in central Croatia, and was founded with just one purpose, defending all you northern people from the Ottoman empire (no need to thank us). So the church was built by some Romans, and has stood atop a hill for a few centuries then when the Ottoman empire came a tower was built, again on an adjacent hill, and the two building were connect with a tunnel that branches out to a few other buildings, an underground river and a cave system reaching 200 meter below the sea level (the town itself is 600m above it). Anyway I like going to that tower, to write my novel, and one night I decided to check out the tunnel system with a couple of my friends. The entrance is under the tower walls with the length of 150m and it one of the branches leads to the church, when you get out you actually find yourself inside the 7 meter tall altar, and you can exit only trough a "secret" door that actually holds the depiction of the death of Christ. That's the boring bit, when we came back in we noticed there is a second path that was caved in a bit, so we entered it and we found ourselves in a giant room that was filled with human skeletons, a few torture machines, and 3 functioning cannons, and as it turns out that hall was undiscovered until we found it, and the entrance was actually beneath the hill with the church, hidden by trees...

To get from my school to this really old library, you have to cross through an alleyway. So, one day after school I crossed through and heard harsh talking and then screaming coming from this broken window. I ran and told the librarian, but she said "Sweetie, that place has been empty for more than 10 years, that's impossible." I just hope nobody was seriously in trouble.

Re: Scary stuff from your town
Depending on what you mean by scary, I have plenty of things. "Real World Scary"...well...I used to work in a rather impoverished district, in a rather neglected shopping precinct...since my store closed down, its probably not doing well as we were a popular store...but before we closed its vacant units were at 37%. Anyway, although it did have a nice network and community of shop-workers who all looked out for each other, it was still kinda scary in the sense that shop lifters and drug addicts prowled the area daily. Then there was the morning when I walked into work to find that the takeaway nearby was cordoned off and police were about because someone had been stabbed. The Iceland store up the road from us was the scene of a vicious assault that ended up in the paper- a chav bitch-thug beat up a pregnant woman in front of the woman's child. Where I live isn't so bad, but that district has a bad rep...and for a reason. A couple of years ago, a friend of mine who lives in that area, 2 masked men broke into her house and beat up her partner and threatened to attack their 3-year-old son, and then made off with a bunch of Christmas presents from under the tree. Other notable things that stand out are ocassions like when a small hostel for mentally-handicapped adults was vandalised because someone got it into their head it was a safe-house for paedophiles (its not), and when something a baying mob was formed when it was discovered that upon his return to the UK, Paul Gadd a.k.a Gary Glitter (former singer and now known as a prolific paedophile) had taken refuge at a friend's home on Hayling Island (where my aunt lives). Suffice to say, he was not there long! Just Creepy and Mysterious. There are all sorts of interesing things in my area...Portsmouth is a historical city, with its dockyards, ships, castles, forts, and many other things. There all sorts of things...Portchester castle is another one. But this one in mind just happened to stand out. It actually stands in the next county over (we're close to the border) and I sed to see it frequently when my dad took us out for drives. Nowadays I see it from the train when I travel to or through Chichester. I used to call it the castle. http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=racton ... g&zoom=1It is called Racton Ruin * Now it goes to show that you learn something every day because I learned this while trying to search for photos to show. The one from above is basically the view I see from the train and have always seen. This following one is a similar view but also shows what you can't see at a distance... http://www.flickr.com/photos/66220977@N07/6331735551/It is more than just a tower. Its a folly, and I've been reading up on it and finding more photos... Pictures like this: http://totallyhaunted.co.uk/resources/R ... %20(Custom).jpg?timestamp=1255599809640 and this: http://www.waynesphotos.co.uk/photos/ni ... racton.jpg this certainly inspire a certain mood... It is apparently haunted, but it always just held wonder for me, I never knew what it was for exactly, so it was always an appealing mystery to me. This one is going to sound mundane, and probably a bit hokey, but its closer to home. There is a large green playing field near where I live, in fact as a kid I crossed it during the summer to get to school (whereas in the winter we walked around ir). In one corner, next to a Catholic school, is a park, with swings, a giant rocking-horse thing (its rather horrific actually haha...actually I think it might gone now!) a slide...all that good stuff we all loved as kids. Well, I played there all the time, but nowadays I feel a little...odd...going there. I've little cause to go there anymore, but during my early teen years I started to find the place rather frightening. I can remember grey cold days there, feeling like something was creeping around us...it was hardly isolated, you could see the backs of houses all around, but it started to take on the feeling of being isolated, and I certainly didn't like being there when it started to get dark. I can't possibly explain why things changed. The last time I went there, last year, I went to sit on a swing to blow off some steam after an argument with my father and it felt...lonely. Makes me wonder if maybe places are alive...kids don't seem to play in parks anymore...maybe the loneliness is the neglect of it... (*Sorry for the long links, I did try fixing them but just wouldn't work lol!)

Re: Scary stuff from your town
I remember when someone found a woman in a ditch near my old house six years ago. The woman had been severely beaten, and the man who found her actually thought she was dead at first. She's in a wheelchair today, she can't speak due to brain damage, and they never caught the person who did it, but it has happened before. The other four victims died. The only thing anyone knows is that he's driving a white van.

Re: Scary stuff from your town
The Beau Séjour Palace, that is now occupied by a gabinet from the Government, in Lisbon (the city where I used to live), a long time ago, it was the residence of the Glory Baron. He is said to be there, carrying big old books and documents. People that work there search for documents in a place and they're not there. After some days, they are in the exact same place they have searched before. The Baron is also accused of moving cups that are in tables and another things in the farm of São Domingos de Benfica (its relatively near there). In Sintra, it is said to have lots of ghosts in the mountain range and in the roads. In Penafiel, in the farm of Jucosa, there was an hedious crime, and now people said that it is haunted. We can find a lot of examples here, and now, a portuguese woman wrote a book about the ghosts of this country. I'm looking for it =)

My husband said: "I've lived here all my life and have never seen that statue before! How did they get it up there with no one noticing?"
I said: "Maybe he just needed to stop for the day?" Could be worse. It could be one of These. There's not much scary stuff around here. Except statues appearing from nowhere. Ones on buildings and stuff that were so not there last time you checked. No, wrong link. I'll fix that. Fixed.

Re: Scary stuff from your town
Our town has a strange, recurring phenomenon that I can't quite explain: young, orange-skinned women with running shorts, duckbills, and side pony-tails. They scare the shit out of me. And they're EVERYWHERE. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Re: Scary stuff from your town
My town has a haunted house, supposedly. I don't believe in ghosts but the story goes that a couple years back, there was a pregnant woman walking home at night and she was going through a part of town that wasn't very populated yet. While she was crossing the street, a car hit her and sped off. She managed to crawl to the doorstep of the nearest house on the intersection and banged on the door repeatedly and cried for help but no one went out to help her, either because they didn't hear her or were scared. She died, along with her unborn child, during the night due to her injuries.
Supposedly, she and the child began haunting the house/plot (stuff getting moved around, thumping, etc) as retribution for the family not helping her. It got so bad that the family moved out. However, even after another family moved in, the hauntings still occured and caused them to move out. This cycle repeated for awhile until the owner of the plot of land started to rent it out ridiculously cheaply to other people. Hauntings still occured. Once the renters ran off, he started letting homeless people live there for free. Again, no dice. They also left because of the woman and her child.
The house was abandoned and left to rot for a few years. Then, a new owner proposed that they destroy the house and get rid of everything to try and get rid of the ghost. They rebuilt a new house after getting the land blessed by a priest. No one wanted to live there because of the stories.
Today, I believe an old woman lives there alone.

Re: Scary stuff from your town
I live in Sydney, this place is crawling with all sorts of haunted places from convict and first settler days. There's a ghost tour around The Rocks in the city that tells you all sorts of scary stories, such as how the Bridge is actually haunted and how maintenance guys going around the place will hear footsteps and see a figure of a man walking around. I went on the tour and a particular place we stopped at, I was having a closer inspection of something and I thought one of the women on the tour had lent over to look at what I was looking at. Turns out no one was there when I glanced up. Weirded me out just a little.
We're also home to a place called Rookwood Cemetery. A place so big it is officially noted as being a Necropolis.

Re: Scary stuff from your town
Every driver in my town scares the piss out of me, its like they don't know how to use a turn signal, merge or drive the speed posted.
But for real the other night I was out with friends on the roof of a local hobby store(they actually let us up there) anyway we see this thing that's blue and green lights flying around about 200 feet up, at first we thought it was a plane.
well it was going in one direction and then it turned around and went the other way, made a loop, dropped 100 feet then went back up. It was like a huge humming bird buzzing around.
To this day I don't know what it was, What I make myself believe is that it was some type of remote control plane or something. some of my friends said it was aliens :p
