Post Re: Dreams and dream themes/interpretations?
My dreams have a tendency to be all over the board. However, if there are any themes that tend to recur the most, they are living as a rebel in an Orwellian world, apocalyptic events, and hunting/being hunted.

I think most of the Orwellian ones are just a playful escape from reality. A chance to step out of line with no real consequence.

The apocalyptic ones seem to be a visit back to a peaceful feeling of acceptance of death that I experienced during a car accident when I was fourteen.
To explain...I was in a vehicle that hit a patch of gravel and slid off a mountain road and into a tree (It had supposedly claimed the lives of three others before we hit it.) doing about 50mph. During impact, time seemed to slow, and though my vision went black, I could hear the glass breaking, and the metal twisting, tearing and crunching.
After impact, I remember just being. I couldn't see, hear or feel anything. It was as if I was no longer in physical form. no white light, no life flashing before me, only consciousness in a realm of nothing. And in that moment, I remember clearly thinking, "Ok, I'm dead now. Well that wasn't so bad." It was a very coherent and peaceful thought, strictly matter of fact, without any strong emotion. I had come to terms with, and accepted my own death, and it was so calm.
Not too long after that, the physical world came rushing back. Vision returned, as did sound, and feeling. There I sat, fourteen years old, in a totaled Jeep Cherokee, with multiple broken ribs, a shattered wrist, my knees sticking through the glove box, when a woman who was driving behind us came running up to my window. She seemed completely angelic to me, and I reached out of the shattered passenger window a plucked a fallen twig from her hair.
It changed my whole perspective of life and death. (My official foray into "Goth" seemed to start pretty soon after actually.)

The hunting/being hunted dreams seem to come off as a game to me. I actually enjoy playing the roles of predator and prey. I'm not sure there's much else behind them really. Sometimes they're dreams of self defense. Sometimes dreams of war. Other times they involve supernatural beings or beastly creatures of night.

The one kind of dream I never seem to have is nightmares. The topics may be nightmarish, but I seem to enjoy them.

Some themes from my dreams are vampires, werewolves, and being smothered. It's really odd that I have all these weird dreams because in life I rarely watch horror movies. Take my goth card, but I find most horror movies...stupid. Like anybody is dumb enough to check out the noise outside when there is a serial killer on the loose...but I digress. I have the same dream repeat itself, and then sometimes I pick up where I left off. For instance, I would dream about going through my closet, and then I would dream about it again with added details. It's like someone's telling a story with me in it and they took a break. Does anyone else have dreams that take up where they left off?

I'm always in a haunted house. But everything comes to life. I heard some people dream in third person, like they are watching the dream, and their own beings, and have no control. Then some people dream in first person. It's very interesting.

A few recent recurring dream themes for me would be weird forms of traveling:

For example, going to another country on a really tiny aircraft with no roof where everyone has to "take turns" being the pilot, as there's a steering wheel in front of everyone's chair. Or going to another country on a train where everyone must sleep standing up in some sort of cocoon-like sleeping bag, or traveling on some weird rollercoaster-like subway that goes vertically and does loops, and similar things happening to highways, etc.
Always the destination is the same...... some weird multi-level city where buildings are connected via weird "transport tubes", located on some island-like plateau in the middle of an immensely high mountain range, surrounded on all sides by waterfalls cascading down forever into some abyss.
Perhaps it's some incarnation of Unknown Kadath? ;)

Anyhow, I don't try to interpret my dreams so much, as I think my lucid ones are merely my spirit exploring manifestations of astral planes. In most of my dreams, there's either no daylight, or else just an overcast grey sky.
I do, however, think some of my dreams are connected to certain things happening in my life: For example, usually when I move to a new house (or new country), I always have ghost dreams. I think ghosts and disembodied spirits usually herald change in my case.

I also think some of my darkest dreams involve being pursued by some unknown terror I can never see, only hear...... I think these dreams are when I've stumbled upon some rather dangerous or unfriendly denizens of the astral realm.
