SisterSandy wrote: Our tree is pretty traditional, only half decorated right now. I have all white lights, green tree (where do you buy a black tree?)and ropes of twisted gold silver and green twined through the branches. My tree is always loaded with ornaments as people buy me one almost every christmas. Front and center is a see through heart with " love forever " engraved on it. i have a homer and marge simpson under the mistletoe. (supposed to be me and my husband) and I bought a Mr and Mrs Santa at a garage sale..... Its actually pink and cream instead of the usual red. the rest of my ornaments are either ones my children or grandchildren made for us over the years.
my sister bought me handmade tin icicles which reflect the lights beautifully. That sounds fabulous!

 Re: Holiday decorations?
Our X-Mas tree has a silver and blue motif. We have two variation of blue bulbs, as I recall (we haven't put it up yet), electric blue and gunmetal, and plain and matte silver bulbs. We have electric blue beaded garlands, and glitter-laced icicles. We use white lights.
I've seen some awesome Christmas trees that would make perfect Gothmas trees which are being sold at Borders Books on a yearly basis (purple large scale trees and black mini trees).

That's where I got my pink tree! I liked the black one, but the bats wouldn't show up against it. Now, if I had skull ornaments... -- Tue Dec 07, 2010 4:13 pm -- This isn't actually "decorating", but: I printed a copy of the gothic "Twas the Night Before Christmas" with a border of little bats, rolled it up like a scroll with the print side out, and tied it with a cream-colored ribbon. I placed it under my little bat Christmas tree, as though a dark Santa left it there. Yes, I know I'm certifiable, and I don't care; I'm having fun. -- Tue Dec 07, 2010 7:24 pm -- Okay, I couldn't stand it...here's my tree. The Bat Tree

 Re: Holiday decorations?
I wanted to put skeletons on the tree, but my grandmother said I wasn't allowed to desecrate Christmas with Gothic things so long as I lived in her house. Just wait though...

What's wrong with skeletons on the tree? I think it would be cute. I don't consider it desecration; we each celebrate Christmas in our own way.

I wish I had a tree so I could decorate it with ribbons, pearls, teacups and such. My favorite tree decorations are real candles and those little fake birds that you can clip onto the branches.

 Re: Holiday decorations?
I just put up our tree. The camera is AWOL at the moment, but it's a three part artifical with lights built in. Small white angels, sparse wooden circles the size of two fingers put together and a log ribbon all sit on a tree leaning against the wall for the lack of a base. And yet the squealing yelling braty kids find it dazzling. That is beautiful.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11968334I find the artist’s description of the tree as “naturally effortless” incredibly appropriate. However, is a “celebration of the power of the nothing” the same as the festival the Emperor held to show off his “new clothes”, I wonder?

However, is a “celebration of the power of the nothing” the same as the festival the Emperor held to show off his “new clothes”, I wonder? If he wanted to 'celebrate the 'art' of the nothing' why not just forego the tree altogether? Clearly, too much effort was put into that tree.

 Re: Holiday decorations?
Ooh.. skeletons on trees sounds brilliant. We have a small fake tree this year - my nan gave it to us last month, and its our 2nd tree in 5 years (the first was 3 years ago and we 'saved' it from the dustbin on the side of a road. Our tree has all red decorations, my in-laws are staying for a month and really really want more decorations - apparently its a big thing in his family. Whereas my family hasn't done christmas since 1998. - I have to remind my folks when its my birthday too... hmm.. so we are doing christmas eve pub dinner (and then all christmas day) with his cousins and aunt & uncle, dog, new baby and his parents this year - and christmas presents for everyone - aah! All I want is to stay in bed, have a few drinks and watch doctor who.
Does anyone else postphone christmas? We've done this once or twice because of lack of funds, and then come July or some other month we do a roast and exchange gifts with each other. It also feels more like christmas then - I still can't get my had around cold winter christmasses... it needs to be hot, sunny and braai weather.

It's worth being cold for that."

 Re: Holiday decorations?
I got one of those Hallmark ornaments. It's the Corpse Bride playing at this little coffin piano; it even plays music. I'll definitely be collecting more Tim Burton ornaments for a nice gothy touch.
As for pushing Christmas forward....I prefer to do it early and get it done. My fiance and I just held ours yesterday since Christmas eve will be spent with my family, Christmas day with his, and Winter Soltice with close friends.

 Re: Holiday decorations?
This Year will be purple - though the lucky colours of the next year are white, orange/red and grey. I'm in love with new purple sparkling balls. And my mom will embroider a couple of purple and green little hearts soon - I'll show 'em in the appropriate thread
