 Re: Your Job And/Or Profession
I'm working on my AA right now, but afterwards I plan to go to uni for a BA in Musical Theatre, possibly with a minor in Psychology. I'm supposed to start working for my mom basically as her assistant soon. Answering emails, building websites, things of that nature. My ultimate goal is to act, but I wouldn't mind making clothing either. I can dress however I please, but I dress pretty casual as is. The most dolled up I get without it being a special occasion is a long black skirt, a tank top, boots, and tights.

 Re: Your Job And/Or Profession
I'm a proud jack-of-all-trades... I cashier at a grocery store chain mostly for the benefits and company of the employees (the work itself is mind-numbing), work at a used bookstore, design/sell jewelry online, and sell handmade greeting cards in the aforementioned bookstore. I also sell books and clothing on eBay for some extra monies. Let's just say... I'm busy.

I get phone calls resembling "My computer is doing ******... Should I try turning if off and on..?" But good luck, it can be frustrating and so much fun, all at the same time...

 Re: Your Job And/Or Profession
I am 27 years old, I have worked at cafes, fast food joints, tattoo shops, adult stores, retail thrift stores, telemarketing and technical support. I have yet to find something that is worth the doldrums. I intend to attend beauty school and hopefully make my way while retaining my sense of self.

 Re: Your Job And/Or Profession
I studied languages at a university of pedagogy. I worked as a substitute teacher for a while but overall I am not very happy of the idea of getting into this job again. I would love to find a job as a translator (preferably of written texts or software rather than "real time" live speech). When I worked as a teacher it was during a period when I usually didn't feel like having a dark style any more (and I was thinking I would leave it forever, but now I feel being drawn to it again). I usually wore blouses, pants (not jeans), sweaters, occasionally skirts, in any colours.

 Re: Your Job And/Or Profession
I'm studying right now, and I'm trying to go to university this year. I want to take a degree in sociocultural animation and intervention. This is a very liberal job I think, and I could work in a lot of places, like foundations and stuff. Meanwhile I'm looking for a job, but it's difficult because in my village they only hired people with reccomendation (the only places that don't do this are the coffee shops, but first of all, they are full, second of all, I don't want any drunk men touching me). You also ask how do I get money. Well...it's lunch money XD every euro left over from lunch, I'll save it until I have the money that I need =)

 Re: Your Job And/Or Profession
I'm finding increasingly that I' m being denied even the opportunity to apply for jobs - jobs that I could walk into and pick up "just like that" - because I've only got three GCSEs none of which are Maths.
As I'm always saying: As recently as ten years ago there was a widespread understanding that, next to proper, practical, real-life work experience, academic qualifactions were worth less than the paper they're written on. What's gone wrong? (Is it just the end result of Britain having had right-wing governments unceasingly since Edward Heath's day, thereby legitimising socially-destructive pretentious insular offensive attitudes amongst the managerial "clarses"?).
I've been working in offices (when I can) for the past 17 years - I've occupied (and performed well in) some relatively complex administrative roles...and, no, I wasn't wearing make-up and gothic clothing at the time. To hell with my GCSES (or even my NVQs) - that should entitle me to an interview - or better than that, a Work Trial, an "audition" free from the unneccessary time-wasting distraction of interviews.

 Re: Your Job And/Or Profession
I work as a checkout chick (very exciting, I know, be careful not to fall off your chairs!) I'm also doing my Preliminary HSC studying: Advanced English Drama Music Information Technology (Also gives me Cert II at TAFE) Community and Family Studies Legal Studies Torn between what subject to drop next year as I need an ATAR of 96 (meaning I have to be in the top 4 percent of the state) to get into Bachelor of Laws/Psychology at Australian National University in Canberra, or I can get to LaTrobe with a 94 in Melbourne hopefully. I suppose my job gets kind of exciting, I make an effort to talk to customers and I get to help elderly people (who talk a lot). It's kinda cool to think I might be that one thing that made their day not-so-lonely, I mean, they may live alone with no family visiting them. I once made an elderly woman's day by saying I loved her dress, which, I genuinely did. She got so excited that somebody liked her dress and then told me most people think it;s too old fashioned, so we had a talk about my nightie collection

 Re: Your Job And/Or Profession
I wasn't going to post here until I could finally got a job, but it just hit me; I technically do have a job. It's just one I don't get paid for. Let's see if I can try to explain this:
My parents divorced when I was 3 and I ended up staying with my Mama(I have daddy issues). Naturally growing up, my Mama had work a lot to support us while I stayed home after school. Looking back, that actually made me very independent compared to others growing up.
Despite having a degree now, no one will hire me whether it's in my field or not. I also lost my car this year to an idiot who just couldn't wait for the red light on an intersection where I had the right away. With times being hard now that have led to a really tight budget, those are 2 things I desperately needed.
Luckily, my Mama had managed to get a second job before all of that happened and recently, she's decided to go back to school to see if 2 degrees will help us out(and because it's something she felt needed finish since she had to drop out to focus more on working to support us). Because of this, she's hardly ever home and when she is; she's too exhausted to much of anything.
Since I spend the majority of my time stuck in our apartment, I've become what I guess you could say a "house daughter". I keep our home clean, cook sometimes, and help keep things managed(my Mama can be very forgetful even before she became burdened).

I study dead people's cultural remains. I'm an archaeologist. I just got a new, full-time, permanent job maintaining a historic site preserve, which makes me slightly happier than I have been at my part-time, temporary job with no benefits. -- Fri Jul 27, 2012 9:22 pm -- Wolfmammy wrote: I make sammiches. It's not my perfect dream job, but I'll take it.
