 How to Remove Malware?
Last night while writing in Mircosoft Word and browsing Facebook, this note popped up: "Your computer is being attacked by an Internet Virus. It could be password-stealing attack, a trojan-dropper or similar." It then goes on to say that the only way to be rid of it is to pay like 70 USD, so that I can use my computer again. You know it is a scam, I know it is a scam. The problem is, what can I do about it to get rid of it? Apparently it is a form of malware, explained here and here. The form I have is called Antivir Solution Pro.It will not let me open any file. I cannot open Task Manager or ANYTHING whatsoever. Nothing. It sucks. I am currently On my husband's user account, which this did not affect, but I long to be back on my own. I am trying to download various things that claim to get rid of it, but I have no idea how it will affect my user account when I am on my husbands. Also do not know what is effective, etc... Any advice would be helpful. I am currently trying to follow all the steps in the last website given, but it is giving me a lot of problems... Also, if you know of a way to get rid of it without having to buy anything, that would be great. Thank you.

 Re: How to Remove Malware?
Hi. I had a similar malware problem awhile back & this seemed to work: First I used rkill (this discusses it & gives a link for downloading: http://www.technibble.com/rkill-repair-tool-of-the-week/). It's free to download. I had to download it on another computer & transfer it on a flashdrive because the malware prevented me from downloading anything online with the infected computer. rkill shuts down the malware so you can run the program to find and remove it. For that, I downloaded something called Malwarebytes ( http://www.malwarebytes.org/). It's available in a free version.

 Re: How to Remove Malware?
Did you save it first and then transfer it, or did you run it on the computer you downloaded it to.
I am not very computer savvy...

At first I just saved rkill, then I ran it after transferring it to the infected computer. -- Sat Jul 24, 2010 4:29 pm -- This link gives instructions for using rkill and Malwarebytes: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-internet-security-2010The page is about removing a virus called Internet Security 2010. I don't know if that's one you have, but it sounds similar. Good luck. . .

 Re: How to Remove Malware?
I did the rkill, and it disabled it, now I am downloading the program you suggested which is the malwarebytes. I also downloaded a free version of Spyware Doctor with Antivirus protection. Hopefully these will work. I have my internet again and can open up applications and programs again. It is now just a matter of getting these things downloaded so that it gets rid of the problem once and for all...
Thank you so much. What you suggested was quick and to the point. Every place I tried to go gave LONg strenous directions which confused me greatly. I cannot thank you enough.

Format your account? And when you make another, back it up on a different drive. Also, if you have a dual-processor computer, back it up on the slave processor, not hard drive. It could also help if you labeled it a different letter(i.e."f" renamed to "k" or "p").

 Re: How to Remove Malware?
My recommendation is to scan your computer and make sure it's clean. To do that I recommend you to use Kaspersky. You can find it here: http://www.trustdownload.com/Antivirus- ... y-7.0.html

What a pain, hmmm?
Just boot into safe mode, and search for 'antivir'. Delete the search results. It's as simple as that; don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
You don't need to do all that scan shit.....Your antivirus would have stopped it from infiltrating your P.C. in the first place if it had any use to it.

This is the best advice here, but I would add that it's important not just to delete the results which mention the specific search term but also files linked to them. Also: examine your browsing habits to prevent further re-infection.

 Re: How to Remove Malware?
the things you need to do are simple, do what the Madhatter said and search Registery entries(Only do that if you know how to, or search professional tutorial)

 Re: How to Remove Malware?
coincidentally enough my fiancees computer was just hit with this same thing last nite. It's a complete pain in the ass to try to get rid of. We fixed it by going here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and downloaded the free version of their program. If you look on the forums they give you step by step instructions on how to take care of it. The forum link is here: http://forums.malwarebytes.org/It seemed to do the job pretty well, specifically for this program but you'll probably have to go reset your internet proxies afterward. best of luck.

What do you mean? She didn't mention using any proxies. Furthermore, she said she couldn't open any file or run any program...she's on her hubby's account. To add to the dilemma....MalwareBytes only scans the account it's on. So you'd have boot into safe mode w/networking, go through the hassle of downloading and installing Malwarebytes (and then deal with all of the hardware confliction, because she's already downloaded other antivirus programs), let it run for an hour/half-hour and hope it isn't circumvented.... Seems like a waste of life, to me

 Re: How to Remove Malware?
Should one do anything to prevent stuff like that from getting on your computer, and if so, how? And how do you know if it is on your computer anyway?
Or should we create a computer thread for dummies to ask questions like these in?
