I figure this is as good a place to talk about this as any...

I love DDR. It's a fantastic rhythm game that can be sent to insanity speeds. The music is also (mostly) nice too. But after a while the four button setup gets too easy. Even when done on the keyboard with songs that have sickeningly fast step patterns that would be impossible on a dance pad.

If you have never heard of it before, O2Mania is a game similar to DDR in the sense of hitting buttons along with songs. Two major differences is this one removes parts of songs that as you press the keys it plays the parts removed, so you have more of a feel of producing the music moreso than playing along with it. It also features seven buttons to use instead of four.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is DDR? Since I don't play it, I am not familiar with the acronym.

I might be wrong, but I think it stands for Dance Dance Revolution. I haven't played it myself but I've seen others playing it. I'm assuming this is the game she is talking about :)

Yes. DDR is Dance Dance Revolution. The game where the arrows stream up the screen (or down, whichever) and you press the appropriate panel with your feet.

Back in high school, DDR was my only way of exercising. Wasn't really good at extreme levels, but it was fun to give it a go.

So I can't really say anything on that part.

I'm with carpi on this one. I can't play on extreme levels, and it's definitely a fun way to exercise. I usually play on Basic, except some songs I can play on Difficult. I honestly don't think it'll ever become too easy, since I'm pretty unco-ordinated.

Another rhythm based game you (being anybody who reads this) might like, is Synaesthete. It's a free game, completely free, no ads or anything, it's got a really catchy soundtrack as well.

I really can't begin to describe it, but basically you kill baddies by pressing buttons at the right time, in time to the beat :P

You can download it here - it's like 80mb or something. It's worth it if you like rhythm games! :)

I don't know, keyboard rhythm games take away alot of the fun, IMO.

I completely agree! It takes away a huge amount of the fun, but if you think of it as a "guitar hero" style of game instead of a dance game, it's easier to appreciate... and plus it's FREE! So can't complain

I'm much better at keeping rhythm with my fingers than I am with my feet... perhaps as a result of using a computer too much! Either way, Synaesthete's still a nice game, very well made, and worth playing.

At first when i started playing DDR i would agree with you. But after playing Stepmania (Computer DDR program) i like the keyboard way more. The dancing is good for a while but if you play the heavier tracks you can only go for a half hour or so before you start to slip up. That, and the stepmania files can get much more difficult.

To each their own though.

And to dusko, That game looks interesting. I may have to give it a try. I cannot tell from the screens exactly how it would even play. And don't worry about the gender confusion. Happens very often. =P

Basically you use the WSAD keys to run around the screen (very easy to master) and enemies come after you. Every time you hit the right note using one of the 3 note buttons, you shoot your laser at the nearest bad guy, no need to aim. The better your timing is, the more damage you do. You also don't need to hit each note, if you miss one, you simply don't fire your laser. I found it really enjoyable. :)

Sadly the only game i have really ever played is the Mario Brothers - sorry Mario, but the princess is in another castle...words instilled in you forever...

I do not think i haveany type of game in a LONG LONG time. Though i did play a free verson of Dream chronicles several months ago, tat was interesting.

Oh, holy shit. I tried to play that game ONCE and it damn near killed me. I don't know if it was set too fast or if I just have no skills.

I have to admit, I do so love watching the little fat kids play that game. Especially when they are really into it and dripping with sweat. Somehow, it just makes me a happy girl.

Hehe, a fun situation to be true, but watching someone who is insanely good at the dance pad is so impressive. Sometimes watching someone on a controller with the speed on x5 and a song you can barely follow is impressive too =D
