I found some knee-high fishnet socks yesterday at Kmart. They have reinforced toes, so they're comfortable under your shoes. They sold for $2.99 a pair! I'm wearing some now, under my dress pants with platform maryjanes, and they're excellent.

It's not all that unusual to find fishnets, stripey tights, black makeup, etc in discount stores or on sale during October. Stock up now!

Another tip I've found to be true in many cities is to search out costume shops -- specifically, costume shops that do a lot of theater work. I have one in my city that sells professional stage makeup for very reasonable prices in a wide range of colors and formulas not widely available commercially. They also sell fishnets and stripey tights for $5. I only recently discovered the place, but I've also heard that they periodically cull their rental collection and sell off some of the pieces. Most of the time, they need a bit of work, but they're all handmade pieces of good quality, so you can get a nice piece for a good price if you're willing to do a little minor work.

Kmart, Target, all those sorts of shops usually have quite a range of socks and stockings, I've gotten some killer fishnets from there (now converted into a shirt)

I find fishnets everywhere. I even found them in a hair supply store once or twice.
