I keep my hair short. Spike it or comb it down...if i let it grow it turns into fine light brown frizzyness...so I dye it black or purple or blue.
Update Jan 11th: Just dyed my hair blue/black its as short as my avatar's hair...whatever.

Alright. So.
I would Adore having the haircut here: pic 1 pic 2 pic 3 (Mr. Azu rocks my socks, no?) And I was wondering how to go about it, whether or not I'd have to cut my hair, (It's about shoulder length) whether or not I should dye it strawberry red at the same time, how hard it would be to upkeep... etc, etc...
Opinions?

Unless you want to do a one-time thing and go about spiking most of your hair with strong wax, yes, you'll need to cut it. What you want is a short a-line style with lots of layers in the back so you can spike it.
Have a look here: A-line hairfiles. That's the basic shape you want, and I'm sure you could find something similar to those pictures. You'll be needing lots of photos for the hairdresser- from the front, sides and back. This is a hairstyle that too many hairdressers get utterly wrong so try to get it looking right the first time!
Once you've got the front bits as long as you like and the back short and choppy enough, a bit of wax will be all you need every morning. As for maintenance, you do need regular trims but I find that as long as the backs a lot shorter than the front you won't end up with a limp bob for quite some time.
As for hair colour... well, what's your colour naturally? If you have blonde or light brown hair, then I say go for it. Other than that strawberry red hair won't work unless you bleach first, and will probably look odd with your colouring anyway. One word of warning if you take the plunge- red dye is a bitch, so only wash your hair when you really need to.

Suuuuper. Those pics are really helpful.
I've got dark brown hair that's already streaked blonde and been temp-dyed over several times to a muddy light brown. 0.o;; As for washing my hair only when I need to... I do that already, 'cause I'm a lazyass. XD Thanks a lot!

You could use hairpieces, and then you can chance your hair every day. And all you use don't have to be hait, it could be plastictubes, wool and what ever you can imagine.

I'm planning on getting an a-line, pretty drastic to what my hair is now (about mid-back length all around), and I was wondering: should I decide to tip it red? I know someone on here said that red was a bitch, but I think it'd compliment my style very well.
Also: if you bleach your hair before putting red in it, how long does the color last, normally?

That depends on a lot of things; specifically, the brand of hair dye, how long you leave it in for before rinsing it out when you dye it (the longer the better), and how often you wash it (try to wash it as little as possible when the dye is fresh, invest in a shower cap).
When I dyed all my hair with SFX's 'Nuclear Red', it would last for about 2-3 weeks as a really intense, vibrant color ( like this). After that, it would fade to a more orange color. I left in the dye for about three hours before rinsing it out, and tried to wash it only once the first week, then every three days, and then every other day once it seemed to be coming out less in the shower. That seemed to work rather well, because (for me at least) it would stop fading at a point that was still more red than orange, and I would only have to re-dye it when the roots became too long and annoying.
Of course, if you're just doing the tips, then roots aren't a problem for you. Also, the tips will grow out in a few months, so if you don't like it you can just cut it off, no harm, no foul. Even if you decide to keep them and re-dye, you wouldn't have to bleach them again, just apply more dye over the already bleached areas, which would make upkeep really easy, even if the color does fade quickly for you.

Wella's got a range of colors called Magma that can be used on dark hair without bleaching it first. It fades out pretty well too, by which I mean that it sort of disappears into brown instead of going orange or dead-hair yellow. As far as I know, it's available in reds/pinks/oranges only.
I used it on partly bleached, partly normal hair (the bleached bit had grown out) about six weeks ago and while the color's faded a bit now, I don't need to re-do it for a while yet. Considering I had to touch-up the blue dye every week or so, it's a big improvement.
And yes red is a pain for a while, but so long as you know you'll be sacrificing a towel to the cause, you should be ok
