I have naturally curly hair but that can be remedied through perms and other methods.

However, I was wondering if anyone here can answer this question:

As a guy with long curly hair, is it possible to easily wear extensions (and not just wear them, but make it look natural and decent)? My hair is more thin than thick, so if anyone can offer any tips or advice that would be spectacular!

I also plan on dying my hair platinum blonde. 8)

Pick a matching color of course, cut the extensions so they blend better with your hair, detail the extensions with texturizing sheers so your hair blends with them. Clip your natural hair with the hair extensions to merge both hair types.

Good luck and much respect for men who care for their hair as I do.

Thanks, you're awesome. I'm glad you're one of the males who think keeping hair nice isn't weird.

Curly hair can be challenging to upkeep but once you master it then it can look just as cool as straight hair; plus we're a bit more unique. :P

Yes, as long as I have long hair, I never want it to be straight. I love having curly hair.

Thank you. I mainly just take good care of my hair. I moisturize it with honey, olive oil and coconut oil and I comb my ingredients through it everyday along with natural conditioners. Since my hair is so curly I'm not able to shampoo it due to tangles and breakage occuring leaving me to other methods of cleaning.

In all honesty, using apple cider vinegar as a natural cleaner and moisturizer works better than any product I've ever bought from the store.

Every product I use on my hair I also use on my face and skin. One reason I look so young, hah hah.

 You do everything I do with my hair (except the coconut oil...dries my hair out like a bitch). I thought I was the only one that put honey in their hair.

Honey really does work great on hair, Yes, I also sleep with honey and coconut oil on my face at night. I exfoliate with lemon juice (Lemon juice also works to lighten complexion) and baking soda along with my my super close shaves that I achieve with a straight edge.

It's all about the cosmetics. One last thing, what do you clean your hair with specificly?

I use organic sulfate-free shampoo. Even though I'm African-American and our hair is usually very thick, my hair is super-thin. It also dries easily, which means more day-to-day moisturizing products (self-made leave-in). That leads to more buildup, which means I have to shampoo more often than my curly-haired counter-parts.

I use apple cider vinegar, but not for clarifying. I use it as a leave-in after washing. But only once in a while. Its damaging to use as a leave-in if done all the time.

Dude, how do you comb your hair? Some people with curly hair use wide-toothed combs or plastic brushes (although I can't even imagine trying to run a brush through my hair. Ouch.) I use my hands and fingers.

Urgh, you are so lucky to have curly hair. Mine is naturally poker-straight and I always toy with the idea of perming it loosely.

I like to use hair accessories to goth-up my hair. Things like barettes, little decorative clips, bows, and hair bands. There are some cool things on Etsy just now – I have my eye on a black hair band with spikes along the top. Perhaps that would be a good thing to investigate?

Oh, didn't see your post earlier. Yeah, I'm back to using ACV in my hair everyday. It does my hair a lot of good. Since ACV is 5% acidic, I woulden't leave it in. A simple wash every couple days is great for your hair.

Originally I combed my hair with a wide toothed comb, then I stopped because I realized it was causing breakage and frizz. Now, I run my hands through it only to disperse my natural products throughout it for cleaning and moisturizing. Yes, it's best to do it when dry.

One thing that pisses me off to no end is those ignorant hair stylists. I'll go in to have my hair trimmed, dyed and curled for $90. They will litterally use the wrong combs, shred by hair, harshly shampoo it with warm water, then blow dry it without heat protectant.

Can you imagine the damages that are caused by this on top of the dying and hair curling? The breakage and ruin caused is astronomical. and for me to pay them $90 plus a $20 tip is outragious. This isn't some cheap barber shop or solon down on the corner in your country town. This is a top notch mall solon with an art and design director working at it. I litterally know more about hair than the women I pay. Everytime I go back to have my hair curled it costs me $35.

They do a great job at hair curling and that's about it. The stylists are straight up dumb. Anyways, those are a few of my inconveniences. and yes, I usually yell at them and I usually give them very poor tips.

I am on the exact same page as you. I have very long very curly hair that, if not slaved over for hours, will become a huge fizzy bush on top of my head. Last time I got my hair cut at a salon, it took over three months to recover from it and I had to sleep in curlers every night (not fun). I've left the salon in tears before after having complete incompitents destroy my hair. So now its been fours years since I've had it cut at a salon, and I cut it myslef, or havea friend trim off the dead ends.
For tips on curly hair though, I never use store bought shampoo (even if it says it is designed for curly hair) I make my own with lemon juice. Sounds gross to not use "real" shampoo, but my hair is at its healthiest and the compliment I get the most is that my hair smells awesome. I neve brush it either, I only brush it out when I striaghten it. I love to straighten it thoug, then my hair falls below my waist and is insainly fun to play with. If you have long hair though, I'd recommend that you braid it at night to protect the hair strands, and also its like getting a perm if you braid while it is still damp.
Hope this helps a wee bit! :D

Post Re: Any ideas for making curly hair gothic?
My almost-hubby has begun the culturally unapproved process of growing out his hair, and we discovered it is in fact curly. He hates it, so he straightens it. If he doesn't, he wakes up in the morning looking like Tim Burton or something, no joke. I make him use conditioners and wait days in between straightening to cut down on frizz, and we have this weird thing where we'll wash each other's hair now and then to give it a good scrub (nothing feels better than someone else washing your hair, imo). So, while he isn't exactly goth, he does feel like he looks more edgy with the hair long and straight. He uses the flat iron more than I do.

For women with long curly hair: Do you rock bangs? I'm thinking I'd like to explore bangs (and I'd love a betty paige style point *sigh*) since I haven't had them since junior high, but I'm worried I'll have to straighten them constantly or else they'll just look stupid.

Also, I've noticed that the longer my hair gets (currently below my bra strap line when wavy) the more relaxed the curl becomes. Maybe for those of you who aren't quite in love with your curls could try growing it out longer. When it's straightened now, since it's mostly wavy, I get an extra inch or two on the length not very dramatic. I do use a comb and brush on my hair, and I couldn't live without detangler spray and Infusium 23. That stuff is divine. I can't finger comb my hair because it's just too thick. I also braid my hair at night to avoid excessive tangles in the morning. I've also heard (and probably mentioned in this thread) that silk pillow cases are supposed to help reduce tangles.

^^I agree with the "growing your hair out" point. My hair is much longer and wavy-er than it was many months ago.

Another thing that could help if you have super curly hair is braiding it at night. A light gel or a bit of water might help hold the style. For most curly hair-types, it becomes wavy if you put it in two or more braids/twists. I actually put my hair in about 9 twists every night, and it comes out wavy.

And I actually used to have bangs, crow, but they grew out. But a Betty Paige hair style might be cute.

Curly hair is fun to play with...in my mind simply letting it grow all wild and crazy and dying it black looks just as goth as anything ...depending on your style of course...or you could employ chemicals and hairspray ...just use the hair itself and let it dictate the look...just think wild and crazy...I have curly hair as well and what inspires my look are people like Robert smith and Edward scissorhands..though they had straight hair I look to them as inspiration and copy their look using the already voluminous curly hair...

I agree with you, at first for me when I first got into goth, I was upset by not fitting in they way I thought I was supposed to (Iwas a baby bat and still am just learning to use my wings) due to my crazy hair that is now the pride and joy of my appearence. The Edward Scissorhands look to me is amazingly gorgeous on boys, and is almost better than straight hair.

Tamed corkscrew curls. Wet it, use a defrizzing product and apply wet look gel.
