Re: When did you get your first pair of combat boots?
My first boots were Fluevog's "Gibson Swirl" boots; I still have them. The toe of the left boot is a bit scuffed from my motorcycle shifter, but other than that, they're still in great shape. I got them so long ago, I can't remember when; it was probably the mid-to-late '90s.
I also have some Bongos, and two pairs of Dr. Martens.

I only graduated from high school five years ago, and I wore boots throughout. I did receive some nasty comments that I wore the same black boots with everything - but unfortunately for them, they never grasped the concept that it hurts more to have your toes stepped on with boots than with those $90 Nikes that everyone had (boots do a good job at scuffing those, too ).

When I was 15 or so my boyfriend at the time bought me a pair of black, 8 hole Dr. Martin's. Sadly, I have no idea what ever became of them.

Re: When did you get your first pair of combat boots?
When I was around fourteen and wanted a more sturdy pair of shoes that would be somewhat good to casually walk around in.. I can't exactly remember what brand they were but they were long, black, and brilliant. I wore them around for a long while before I eventually lost them and had to get another pair.. I miss those boots. .-.

I've always worn boots (even at primary school), but I class my proper pair of combats probably when I was 10, got my first DMs when I was 16 though (had been wearing DM shoes though at school). Wanted to make sure my feet had definitely stopped growing due to the longevity of DMs!

I got some combat boots in high school, but I didn't actually get real combat boots until bootcamp.
And, well, running around in them all the time sucks.

Re: When did you get your first pair of combat boots?
I never owned boots like that, but I like outdoor shoes of a good quality. They best one was a pair from Canada or the USA for lumberjacks they kept 7-8 years of dancing. The high-tech outdoorshoes which I have now are nearly finished after 5 years, because of a soft shift over the sole, which doesn't resist the turnarounds. But they have a bew model which looks really monstrous.

Partially due to them just being more comfortable on my feet, partially because they look good on me, and partially because I just like them. And they're a bit more practical (not like the more flashy New Rock type). I prefer a low-key combat or biker boot as I can wear them in more situations, or get away with wearing them without it contravening a dress code at work, for example.

Well where I work there's not really that much of dress code so luckily I can usually just wear what I want. Although I don't try to wear anything to drastic either.

It depends on te style of New Rocks as to whether or not they're impractical. The Reactors are pretty good for your basic running around, everyday wear and they last a long time if you're not hard on boots. The giant platforms they make and the styles with the huge spikes and chains...yeah, not practical for daily wear. Also depends on the individual's definition of what constitutes practical footwear. I think heels are impractical daily wear, but there are lots of women who wear them daily.

I really want a pair of these: http://www.pennangalan.co.uk/boots/FW267.phpor http://www.pennangalan.co.uk/boots/FW408.phpor a cheaper version of the above. I don't like wearing heels but I don't mind the ones in the first link (if you can even call them heels. Heeled maybe?). I guess I prefer them to the other New Rocks (big buckles and so on).
