Most of my hobbies have been put on standby for now. XD I want pics of the bat quilt. Wow! I wish you the best of luck in finishing that. As for my bat quilt, I'm doing it entirely by hand so it may be a while before pictures are available. By hand? You must have a ton of patience! I made my husband buy me a sewing machinee so that my doll clothes and my own wardrobe wouldn't take so long. I r impatient. Spidey those necklaces are cool! I like the big shiny black pendant on the first one. Terscha, I like the way bagpipes sound(hubz hates them, though). It's a shame you had to give them up. Holy! I don't have that kind of patience either. ^_^ I can quilt by hand, but I'm recruiting my fiance's little sisters and mine, and my brothers' if I can, so we should have it quilted in a day or two. Many hands make light work! I pieced using the machine, and I'm about done with that part, thank goodness. Getting batting today. XD As always, lovely, lovely pics everyone. You are all such a talented bunch.

I sew, but not often. Also my crocheting and origami seeem to have fallen by the wayside. My cooking is starting to go down in quality as well as my book reading which has horrified me so much, I make a point to grab new books whenevr possible. I just might re-read Scarlett Letter, even though I know it inside and out.

 Re: Resurrecting Abandoned Hobbies
Back in elementary school (I forget which grade), my art class taught us how to spool knit. I begin my at-home spool knitting project I started out strong, knitting for hours everyday, then it dwindled to a couple times a week, and then there were these dormancy periods where whenever I came across my knitting box, I'd spool knit a bit and then drop the project. Well, this year, I went camping up north, and to occupy my time spent in the long car drive, I decided to finally finish my spool knitting project (just a note: I got one of those 1 pound spins of yarn, so it's really long). And I nearly finished.... Hopefully, one day, it will be completely finished.

That would be a lot of unraveling (if that's what you were referring to).

 Re: Resurrecting Abandoned Hobbies
There was once a time in my short life where I would churn out full-length graphic novels once a year on average. It started in 6th grade and ended in 9th. It just came to a point where I didn't ever feel like finishing a project. Maybe it was the increased distraction of the internet and video games added onto the "DRAMA" I had to "DEAL WITH" going into big ol' "SCARY" high school. Now I think that with a set of new pens and a script to base my work off of, I could probably get the 'big one' I've been wanting to do...done. Eventually.

 Re: Resurrecting Abandoned Hobbies
Oooh, good thread!! I do a cooking-and-lifestyle blog, which I haven't posted in for a few months (since September). Usually I post once every few months, whenever I remember to take pictures of whatever I'm doing. I am creative, but sort of skill-challenged with crafts. My ideas tend to outweigh my actual abilities. I am, however, in the process of making a rug. I have a lot of the materials braided up, and started stitching it up into a spiral over the summer. Haven't touched it in about 2 months... I should get back to it! Maybe I can post a picture or 2 if I figure out how.

I'm big into calligraphy of different types. It does seem to be a bit of a lost art to the people so it does attract a lot of people lol. I sit around in class on slow days and just practice then doodle art around it to pass the time.

 Re: Resurrecting Abandoned Hobbies
This is a great topic!
I don't think I would have the patience to quilt by hand either, but the great thing about patience is that you need to do it to learn it - I'm sure you've developed a lot of patience.
Resurrecting hobbies is something I've been trying to do lately, while I have time over summer before I go back to Uni. I've started reading again, but not as much as I would like. It probably doesn't help that I have 6 books sitting around in my room all of which I am currently supposed to be reading. I look at them and have a mini panic attack over which one to read at the time.
Worse, however, are my two poor guitars that have been largely relegated to their stands all year. Studying full time, working part time and social life don't leave much time for them. But I was inspired yesterday to make a real effort to take up guitar again (and this time actually get good at it). I was watching my partner's two year old strumming away at a toy guitar I bought him for Christmas, he loves the thing, and I thought how great it would be if I could teach him to play when he's older.
My other long-lost hobbies can stay that way for now. Scrap-booking, poetry writing, drawing, knitting, cross stitch and the like. I shall revive my hobbies in small steps, methinks.

 Re: Resurrecting Abandoned Hobbies
A surge of reading Middle English has come bursting through the house (well, at least in my room). Anybody else like to read this stuff too?

My English isn't good enough to read English that old (it shouldn't be older than 200 years or so for me), but in my own language I have read some of our classics in high school. Your posts are quite funny to me, as I was just last weekend thinking that I should re-read them and start reading the others. As the spelling and wording is a lot different from our modern language, I often read them out loud, though. Otherwise I cannot figure out what the text says.

Wow! I'm used to English from the 16th (difficult to understand, but at least comprehensible) , 18th, 19th and twentieth centuries... Was there a massive upheaval in your language?

 Re: Resurrecting Abandoned Hobbies
Our language (Netherlandic aka Dutch for those who haven't guessed that by now) as it is now is derived from English and German from approximately 1500 onwards. Reading old texts therefore requires a sense of old English and old German. From 1500 onwards, our language gradually morphed into what it is now. So the more recent the text, the easier I can read it. Original texts from say 1500 or 1600 require lot of reading out loud and puzzling on the words (many of the words are no longer (commonly) used) and the word order. It's really hard, and I often have to look things up. Not an easy bedtime read, but fun to do once in a while.

 Re: Resurrecting Abandoned Hobbies
While I don't speak Dutch, I'd pretty much figured that there was a strong German influence... But the fact that a lot of words look like anglicised German words I thought was purely coincidental; I never realised that English had had a formative influence on Dutch - or, heck, ANY language for that matter!!
