 Bone Jewelry
Your opinion? I like to use the things i collect and enjoy making jewelry out of various bits and bobs of animals, but lately ive seen a distinct lack of real bones used in jewelry and more iron cast stuff.
so whats your view on real 'natural' jewelry?

 Re: Bone Jewelry
I have some bone beads that I use in making jewelry. They are carved into bead shapes. I have yet to make jewelry from bone-shaped bones. You can get them off of ebay.

 Re: Bone Jewelry
I had part of a sheep's skeleton I used for a ring once, cos my finger is tiny. I'll find it and post a photo, but the bone wasn't modified at all (I painted a little black bit with nail polish that's it but it's size is unmodified) and it's an almost perfect fit if I'm not planning on doing anything with my hands

 Re: Bone Jewelry
I find the concept of wearing parts of dead animals as jewelry fascinating - as long as the animals weren't intentionally killed so that some speshul snowflake can wear its bones/fur/legs/whatever. Though I admit, I'm waaaay too lazy to go out and look for dead animals and I can't even imagine myself collecting bones from actual corpses, so I just settle for e-windowshopping and drooling over Loved To Death jewelry.

 Re: Bone Jewelry
A few Christmases ago, I was given a Tiffany silver pendant in the shape of a bone. I wear it a lot, and the best part is that I didn't buy it.

There's surprisingly little roadkill around these parts. We're podunk, but not exactly small enough that there are a lot of animals around, so scavenging wouldn't do much good I'm afraid. Either that or the dead things get eaten by the neighborhood dogs. Must be nice to live out there where you do. Actual countryside instead of a small bit in the yard that might look like woods if you kinda squint.

Its gnawed on, bottom jaw is, naturally, missing and due to said gnaw-age, its pretty misshapen. There's actually a rather morbid story to why its gnawed, but its also really short and uninteresting. I have it hanging on a chain--I generally just hang it from a nail in my room--since I really can't figure out how to make it into something. Ah...and on a different note, my mom owned a squirrel once. A red squirrel. Which is illegal, but hey.... Her name was Madchen. Edit: Viktor, methinks I'm in love with the Black Bat Wing 24K Skull Cameo Necklace. I'm not overly wild about gold--actually, I pretty much hate it--but its absolutely adorable. :3

 Re: Bone Jewelry
I have nothing against bone jewelry or buttons or anything like that. (maybe it's my inner anthropologist talking again....) I have had my heart set on bone runestones for some time....

 Re: Bone Jewelry
I haven't made anything out of my stash for fear of ruining them but I'd love to convert my bird skull into some sort of pendant. I live near to beach so I can find plenty of odd things washed up, plus they're already pretty clean so there's not too much fuss about cleaning them, just a quick boil in a pot of water.

 Re: Bone Jewelry
Wow, it looks like I'm not the only one who collects bones! I have a bag full of armadillo bones that I haven't done anything with. Jewelery sounds like a good idea. Don't worry; it was roadkill.

Don't worry; it was roadkill. Well, naturally! We don't just assume that people are killing little critters for jewelry. Although, I have seen people who get that notion in their head.

I'd wear this. I've actually never been into wearing anything that use to be a living creature, but some of them are very nice looking.
