Post A few style questions for the beginner goth
Since I'm new to dressing goth I thought I'd start out with simpler, more "classy" clothes. I was thinking of something like this: black dress shirts, black cargo pants, black canvas shoes with some studs, black leather studded belt, a black wallet with a short chain and a really cool eye ring I found on Etsy. But I was thinking that the plainness of the cargo pants might clash with the fanciness of the dress shirts. Also, what kind of jacket should I wear with this in the winter? I was thinking of getting a plainish trench-coat, but alas, they are banned at my school!! And do you think that a mohawk would look good with this style? Not a really big or crazy mohawk, just a few inches and a plain fan. I'll probably keep it its natural brown (parents don't like funky colored hair) but I may dye it black because I don't like my hair that much and black would match the clothes better.

I'm gonna give you the same advice I have given to all the other people who have a similar query. When you are starting off think carefully about the overall impression you want to give- don't just pick random items from all the different subtypes of Goth and mix it up in a confusion- successfully combining different styles takes skill and experience. If you like the classy element - then don't wear the studde stuff at the same time, if you like the rivet stuff then do'nt do a frilly shirt at the same time- to start off with. Also try not to overdo it- this can be a problem when newbies who desperatly want the world to recognise them as Goths and so go way over the boundaries of taste and style. I can't comment on the mohawk unless I've seen your head- headshape and facial features will determine if it will suit YOU as opposed to just being an 'alternative' haircut. As for jackets - a well tailored suit jacket would go with a formal classy look, an M65 Military jacket or a leather bike goes more with a casual look..... take it slow and easy and think it through- use the internet to find pictures of styles or items you like as inspiration.

Oh, when I say "black dress shirt" I don't mean something with lots of frills and such. I mean something more low-key. Like this shirt: http://www.esuitgallery.com/style_loc/3 ... kfront.jpg

Ahh - smart shirt. That would work with combats. My partner likes collarlessshirts with combats and big boots- he has a collection of vintage ones. They make him look like a dark 1900's farm worker- or maybe the gardner from Lady Chatterlys lover (Sean Bean anyone?)- oh my!

Really? I guess that would go with the studded belt and such. Do you know wear to get some black combat boots pretty cheaply?

Edit: I just found some really nice shoes that I want, does anyone know about the quality? Here's a link: http://www.vampfangs.com/Demonia-DEVIAN ... dev103.htm

I'm personally not fussed on Demonia - the quality is'nt great and the fit is worse but the main thing I hate is that they do cheap rip-offs of other brands- such as TUK, Swear, Sella, Penangalens. I'd prefer to go direct to the origional brand and pay more for the origional item. Call me a snob but when someone in a club asks me if I like thier Sellas and they're not - they're rip-off Demonias they paid £50.oo for- and I've got the real leather deal that I paid £120 for, and they think that we've got the same boots- It just gets to me. Rant over...

My partner has almost identical Converse boots (that i bought him) for summer wear- they are plain though - which is nice. They are called 'Monos' by Converse. I think the style of the Demoinia ones are okay but if I was gonna have customised shoes I'd rather do it myself with those studs you can buy that you just push through the fabric or decals painted on etc. - That way you have individual shoes that no one else has. Plus- it's extra cred for doing it yourself.

My partner gets his winter boots either from Army Surplus stores (harder and harder to find these days) or from workwear stores- the Gripfast brand is good, as is Tradair- as they are both Old DM factories.

High top boots? :? Sounds wrong, lol.

I keep telling you people, in all seriousness, to just start buying everything in black. Then everything matches and you can work on 'style' when you can figure it out for yourself.

Yep, that's fine, under_lord. We'd simply say "a pair of New Rocks".

I've got a pair of black Grinders (http://www.grinders.co.uk/default.asp?Page=Styles&Name=HarnessLo). Seem sturdy enough, but wear two pairs of thick socks as you are wearing them in or its blister time. :(

Same thing here... I never paid a lot for shoes or boots(I did get a rebate each time I bought shoes less 50% each time) But I do want the necessary Evil Highwayman coat it looks really nice ^^(But my parent don't want to buy things on internet or simpler, that kind of clothes)

I would get a job, get a bank account or credit card and buy them yourself.
