 Re: Gothic Fashion Influences
Hi Arc -Angel.
I'm afraid it's the fetishy and lingerie-style stuff that Lady heather wears that i like - call me pervstress if you like... I like the way she wears fetishy and Gothy stuff without it looking too costumey- like knee length skirts instead of full -length ones etc. I love to wear velvet, satin, silk and lace as well as PVC or latex- but nothing too cheap or bondage-y looking. I'm small and petite so I think sleek and fitted clothes look better on me than long flowing ones. I like corsets and fitted blouses and tight penicl skirts that make you take tiny Geisha steps and fishtail skirts..that kind of thing.
I get the influences of Medieval style on Goth dress (Gothic artitecture and fairy tales) and Victoriana (Gothic novels- Shelly, Byron, Stoker Poe etc.) and of Punk- but non-of those influences seem to resonate with me persoannally. I haven't been into Victoriana or Medieval style for many years as i feel that they look like costume on me personally- not since the day i saw two girls in Bradford dressed in full black Victorian mourning dress in the height of summer to go shopping in town and I thought- cripes!
There is one episode of CSI where lady heather has a lovely kne length fishtail fitted lace dress on with knee boots- i'd love to wear soemthing like that.

I like Romance, Victorian and Lace.
I do occasionally see that on celebrities, but not often enough.

 Re: Gothic Fashion Influences
Hi, As far as my concern I am inspired by the people around me and not from the celebrities because sometimes I really don't understand what they are wearing.Generally I don't go for shopping clothes but only when I have seen something which I had really liked it to wear. And money should be there in the pocket then I go for it.

Yeah, I take inspiration from some bands (mostly Batcave) but I just can't see myself wearing lace or velvet so I guess my wardrobe is more comfortable/goth than gothic.

I also like my tripp pants, so i guess it depends on my mood as to which i wear. But Velvet must be at least a once weekly thing for me.

It's fairly hot where I live and also I'm not in the... ahem... shape for wearing such a cloth.

I love velvet too, though my wardrobe consists of crushed velvet (the nicer, uncrushed stuff costs a bit more to work with). I definately love lace and brocade.

 Re: Gothic Fashion Influences
My influences are weird. I've never been one to get into celeberties(even the few I actually like). Instead, I got my influence from fictional characters. Sad, I know, but these authors dress their characters in such cute outfits.
For the past couple of years, I've become greatly influenced from the wardrobe of Pauley Perrette's character Abby Scuito from NCIS(love that show). She had some the cutest outfits of any goth character portrayed in fiction that WEREN'T over the top either.

 Re: Gothic Fashion Influences
I think getting influence from fictional characters is completely reasonable, BlueRose. Like Aurora said early, some people get influence from tales such as Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz. After seeing SciFi's (I refuse to refer to that channel as "SyFy") Tinman, I really wanted to go more into steampunk after seeing Azkadelia's (sp?) wardrobe.
And Abby's wardrobe is cute. ^_^ It makes me like miniskirts a lot more, even though I really don't like wearing things so short.

 Re: Gothic Fashion Influences
Yeah, Abby's my biggest influence on wearing miniskirts now(I WILL get a red and black pleated skirt that fits me). Ironic, considering I used be insecure about wearing anything revealing when I was younger. Now, I wear some of the tightest and shortest skirts/shorts. I've become so girly now, but I still got some of the tomboy left in me.
I plan to get a corset one day that is short enough to show my mid-drift(after I lose some weight and fit my big DD cups into them of course).

 Re: Gothic Fashion Influences
The Victorian Era, Visual Kei and the occasional internet search is where I get my fashion fixes. Though, I love what Amy Lee does sometimes.

 Re: Gothic Fashion Influences
Quote: *snip* I've become so girly now, but I still got some of the tomboy left in me. Back in the day, not too long ago either, I utterly hated wearing skirts. Now, they're my wardrobe's major staple. I like dressing up and looking pretty, but I can still retain my tomboyness too. I like wearing corsets and lacey things and long skirts, but, that doesn't necessarily make me "girly", per se. I guess, being "girly" insinuates that your whole life revolves around your clothes and your looks, and that you have "girly" tendencies, e.g. throwing a fit over breaking a nail, fleeing from spiders, avoiding (real) nature (like going off the designated trail and stepping in mud, touching stuff that is "dirty", getting your clothes dirty/sweaty, etc.). I suppose coming from me, a person who is majoring/minoring in fields that requires one to go far out and beyond and getting messy along the way, I know when and where to dress in a certain way. Plus dressing nice everywhere is a pain in the ass and limits funtimez by 70%. Quote: *snip* Though, I love what Amy Lee does sometimes. Okay I admit it: I've recently been looking at some Amy Lee photos, and she does have a unique fashion taste. Lately, I've been loving that black underbust corset that she is usually seen sporting, so as a winter break project, I've decided to make an underbust corset/waist cincher that is similar to its design.

 Re: Gothic Fashion Influences
Mainstream celebrities, no. Bands, singers and models in the scene, yes, quite often. My favourites are probably Emilie Autumn (bloomer fetish!), Adora BatBrat, Razor Kandi, JoHanna from The Cruxshadows and Kynt and Vyxsin. I also like some of the stuff that Abby from NCIS wears, but only some, as most of it is too 'brand name' for my liking. Her overall look is quite cute though, in a Hot Topic kind of way...

Carpathian- dark -princess.
Girlie- that sounds like me! I used to love Victoria Plum's cousin (Sugar plum?) in the story books- the way she wore a white dress and would gently hover over muddly puddles whereas Victoria would splash through them. My life does revolve around clothes and make-up- I'm planning on becoming a part-time stylist and CMB consultant in the future. Yup, I hate spiders too.
I can be messy and stuff but I prefer to 'try' to be more lady-ilke. i leave the tomboy stuff to my sister- poking dead things with a stick anyone?

And Amy Lee does have a nice style- but what is it with wearing their corsets backto fornt- it just reminds me of prostitue 'Geishas' who tied thier obi at the front for conveniance.
Style icon: I like Louise Black's style at the moment (she was on Project Catwalk and I have been following her clothes line for many years now- Eyespy eclectics and Dollflesh- now she's on Etsy) She recently grew her hair out of a flapper bob- good call as it suits her face shape better (though not the flapper style clothing so much, oh well)
