Re: Staple Items for a BabyBat?
Here's a tip for someone who wants cheap gothic looking boots: Bongo. I bought a pair of Bongo knee high lace-up boots for $20 bucks at JC Penny's. If you can't afford, your parents can't afford, or you just don't want to spend $100 bucks on the "real" goth boots, definitely check out Bongo shoes; they tend to be pretty alternative in style.

Dude, are you stalking me? My best pair of combat boots were by Bongo, that I bought at JC Penny's (or Sears; they're both the same), for $20 bucks. They lasted me a good three or four years. I had to finally replace them with some Dr. Martens that I got this past X-mas. I still refuse to throw them out, though. I'm keeping them until I find a pair that are similar in style (because those Dr. Martens don't bode well with me when I walk long distances; that, and they're not as chunky and they don't hurt when I kick people, which I'm accustomed to doing with combat boots).

If I was able to shop in thrift/charity shops my bank balance would love it Because of my size just buying a dress can cost upwards of £50! and I have to just get whatever I can as I have to get the right size... if possible I'll get dresses/skirts and other clothes in white cotton (if I can't get black) then I'll dye them myself - white cotton takes any colour, and stays true to the packet

I'm not brave enough to play with dye much, I'll admit it. My first dye project was a mess...-_- We seem to have a lot in common, Carpathian. hee hee

Re: Staple Items for a BabyBat?
I love thrift shops!!! At least once a months, the kids and I do a round of all the ones near to our house, and not only looking for clothing. My family is not poor, but we are thrifty. Why pay $500 for a new dresser when you can find a perfectly good one at a thrift store for $40? My kids are always talking about how their friends think we are rich. We are middle income, but we know how to spot deals! I don't think we have paid full price for anything except for the house and our cars, and even our home was being thrifty...why buy a 3-bedroom house in the city for $250,000 on about 1/8 of an acre, when we could get the top of the line, 5-bedroom manufactured home (actually made of the same materials as the house...checked on that) and 1.3 acres of land for $190,000?
But back to the thrift stores...you can find not only clothing there, but cool household items or old books. I collect wine glasses and flutes, and I'm always looking for interesting ones to add to my collection. Also, the nice thing about thrift store finds is that they didn't cost you much. So, if you want to alter or dye the clothes and mess up, or paint the furniture some funky color and it doesn't turn out right, you didn't spend that much on it.

Re: Staple Items for a BabyBat?
Hit a Goodwill on the way home yesterday. Found some really great boots...black, about 4 inches above the ankle, really chunky soles. They are more hardy-looking than the knee-high boots I got for Christmas, so I think I will save my knee-highs for when I'm more dressed up, and wear these shorter boots with my jeans on a more daily basis.
Non-clothing, I found this really cool little black cabinet for my counter top in the bathroom. It's perfect for my skin care stuff, my perfume, etc. I have so much space back on my counter now that this stuff isn't spread out all over!
Didn't find much else in terms of clothing. Found some things that I had wish were even close to my size...like the pair of black tuxedo pants with the satin strip down the sides. There were very much too big! I also found some very promising shirts in sizes that were too small for me. Oh well...I still walked out with a couple of treasures!

Re: Staple Items for a BabyBat?
Great news! Finally convinced my mother to let me go...we're going next week. Also, I'm finally confident with my wardrobe.
Huzzah!
