My fiance is a non-goth although fairly eccentric and basically an all around freak and computer geek. He likes most of the goth stuff I introduced him to like certain books, comics, art, movies, etc. all except the music. *sigh* He's more into mainstream-ish metal and industrial stuff. He was already into things like The Crow and Anne Rice when I met him. Ironically we met on the internet so attraction was based strictly upon personality and mutual interests. The lack of goth guys around the places where I've lived is appalling. Previously I have dated a rivethead type guy who was into really strange cult films. :) We're still pretty good friends too. Then I dated a metalhead (I have no idea what the fuck I was thinking then).

As for preppy guys who like rap?.... UGH what are people thinking!! X) I stay faaaar away from people like that...

I do think my fiance is rubbing off on me though... he loves doing outdoorsy stuff like fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, etc... and well I kinda like it too. Fishing isn't so bad. We both tend to stay in the shade though since too much sun gives us both a headache and he's pretty much pale as a ghost and sunburns easily. I also pack lots of sunscreen for us... :D

It turns out I used to be something like that. I wasn't preppy or anything (*shivers*) I just was a loner and any preppy or otherwise chicks (and guys) hated me and generaly made me hate them back. The few goth grrrls and boys I've know are the only ones I could stand, not only stand but like being around. That's basically why I liked goth chicks instead of preppy chicks.

are all jocks 'very non-goth'? i can grasp the concept of a 'very goth' guy, but can someone tell me of what a 'semi-goth' guy consists? just the music taste but not the look? the look, but not the music? part-time look and part-time music tastes? all goth attitude and no goth look?

I first got into the goth scene because I started dating a goth girl. (before that I was a biker and a motorhead, still pretty much am). Anyways, before I started dating this chick I always had an attraction, no admiration is a better word, for goths. There's always something to be said for people who just do their own thing and not give a shit what everyone else thinks.

Isn't that Jenna JAMESSON? :p

Hmm... Well... I simply would say to my defence (on why I should be hitting on goth-girls) that that is the style that I find most attractive (that and Synth) but do I slip into the subject of BDSM on the first time I talk to them? Nah...

I like to see myself as a young man with atleast some social competance, atleast for being what I am... *Shrug* X)

=:)

What I was originally referring to was why men with absolutely no gothic intrest normally, are attracted to the girls who look like they're goth. I didn't think any truely goth loving female would even consider going with a guy who only dressed in brand name clothes and listened to only rap. Yet these types of men still flock towards the gothic females thinking they will actually get some action.

And whats worse about these guys is they would probably give gothic men shit about looking stupid or whatever. Or wearing a trench coat in the summer.

I think its fine that metalheads, goths, punks, whatever go out with each other, as long as they at least have something in common, or they know each other well enough (not just some random thing on the street). I understand that your taste in music isn't everything, but it really plays a major role in my life.

The point of the tread was, why do jock guys think they can have anything that walks by simply giving a few cat calls?

Probably unexplainable I know... who would want to know how their minds work anyway.

I know some of you are still in High School (or middle school)...but you'll find when you finally escape those tiny subjective realities that the freak/prep/jock stereotype slowly dies away and is replaced by generally two kinds of people:

People that want a house and a car and a wife and a job and nothing really beyond that other than a complete lack of strife (strife beyond running out of gas in the lawn mower or going below the $500 dollar cushion in their bank account)...

-and-

People that want more out of life. People that really squeeze it and suckle on whatever passion they can cause to ooze forth...These people are weird and unusual and depicted with all sorts of reckless abandon when it comes to drugs and sex and rock and roll by the media...

This second group is taboo to the first...They're seedy and curious and at times they have a delicious quality that attracts the first - pulls them from the safety of a 9-5 job and pair of khaki pants...

This is something that's not going to change...It's not going to go away...Fish nets and charcoal-colored eyeshadow are always going to have a sexier appeal than a pink tube top and a pair of white Keds...

I think mainstream American culture in general is pretty much fascinated by what they shun. Take for example sex. It's amazing how many people hear some politician or TV preacher complain about the sex and violence in movies, games, etc. and many people will say "Amen brother." But these same people will go home and watch TV and be fascinated by Britney Spears' body in a pepsi commercial. For a society that reviles sex so, we sure are obsessed with it.

I guess it doesn't die very quickly here. I'm going into college and those men were well into their 20s. There are a lot of dirty old men here too, maybe I just hang out or drive at the wrong time of day/night.

Yeah...it has a long death rattle...from High School through College...But dirty old men - that's a stereotype that's not going below ground anytime soon...

hahahaha... dirty old men are funny... but on to the original subject...

I for one have never EVER gone out with a goth chick... in all actuality I have a liking for those preppy chicks who think they are the queen of the world... it's fun to bash their pretty little hopes against the rocks... haha... maybe that was just the "mind-fucker" inside that's talking...

:D fs ;P

Haha.. The only real experience with jock/nerd-type guys after goth girls... is the guy in my data management class. Of course, I'm one of the only goths in the school (I believe there are 2 others *sigh* Neither of who I talk to.. :p ) Anyway. About half a billion times per class I catch this guy staring at me. I know it's me because...well... I sit in a corner by myself, with no one within 5 computers from me. X)

At least its' better than the assholes I met at the mall while looking through some books when Coles was having a sale. (:
