well, ignore them. If you base the idea of "going goth" on what a bunch of other people think, maybe you shouldn't "go goth".
Why are you "going goth" for anyway? What is you inspiration to do so?

Fantrl;
Greetings and Else. . .
'Gothic' is simply a label for the lesser minds of society to stereotype since people are constantly looking for answers. I do not identify myself such as 'Gothic'. I find categorizing to be rather doltish. I austerely let my mind determine what I like, and so be it if it is the night, cemeteries,
bereavement, Vampires and so forth. I presume everyone's judgments, no matter what style they are, will forever be divergent, i can not give you an absolute on how a 'Gothic' person thinks. If there was no such label, I'd continue to dress in black, victoran clothing. I would still be akin to the things that interest me. I do not do it or like it because it is expected of me.
I can't elucidate precisely why I don dark colors, they beguile me so. I do not adorn myself in black because I presume I have to in order to be 'Gothic' but because it's such a unfathomable color. You can extort virtually anything out of this shade, or perhaps even nothing at all. It can insinuate so many diverse things. It's analogous to a void, I'd desire to descend into. . .eternally. . .

"Now practically my whole middle school knows I'm gothic"

You make it sound like some sort of disease. If Gothic is something you're ashamed of, and if you're being swayed by the opinions of the intellectually challenged at your school, WHY exactly did you want to be Gothic in the first place??

Either be who you are with confidence, or bow to the opinions of others and go with the sheep.

Whatever it is you choose to be, you should not be feeling ashamed of your choices. Something to contemplate.

OK, I am not ashamed of being "goth" or "going goth" or whatever, and I don't care that people make fun of me. But.. It is getting to the point where everyone, all the time keeps on making fun of me.

...and that's the way life goes. if the makeing fun of you thing is stemming from "going goth", and it bothers you more than keeping a goth aesthetic, then stop going goth.

curious, what sort of music do you listen to?

You're kind of contradicting yourself here. You say you're not ashamed of goth and that you don't care that they make fun of you, yet it does bother you enough to address it here.

As Bluefreak said, ignore it, hard as that may be. If they're that lame that they have nothing better to do with their time than make fun of someone who's different that just makes them look stupid. Try and brave the storm and try and pull it off that it looks as though it doesn't bother you.

If they know they can rile you with the teasing and such, they're going to keep egging you.

Granted, sometimes they'll keep doing it anyway, it's not a 100% foolproof method.

So far you say they've made fun of you just mentioning "going goth", have you actually started dressing/going goth or are they just making fun of you based on the statement right now?

Also... curious... do you live in some kind of rural area or relatively small town or something?

Believe me fantrl, I was mocked in High School just for wearing black and I was targeted for not believing in God. It is not what you said that makes you the target but rather the fact that you don't believe in the same aesthetics as most High School ppl do. I know that it seems stupid now, but later on you will understand that everything that happens to you shapes your perception of the world. The reason a lot of non maintsream cultures feature acceptance as one of their primary goals is because many of their adherents went through what you are going through now.

Goth or not, having the intestinal fortitude to play life by your own rules is never easy. "Going Goth" (whatever that means to you, you never really said) may seem tough right now, it's the same if you decide to drastically change your hair color, get tattoos, change careers for the simple reason that you want to, get pierced in strange places, listen to Fields of the Nephilim all damn day... whatever.

I've done those things and many more that earned me generous doses of BS from the unenlightened around me.

For what it's worth, the vast majority of goths that I have met are much brighter and more open minded than the average pedestrian out there. Stick to your guns, hang out with whatever other goths you can find (more often than not that's online unless you're in a big town) and enjoy.

It gets easier with time.

I know I'm a lil late on this, but i just want to say Amen to that (figure of speech , i don't actually believe in god, if you all care). When i *turned* goth (i started wearing black clothes, which i had always done... maybe it was the boots, whatever...) I got hell from the Lemmings. Then i told them almost exactly that and they laid off. Beautiful...
