Post Goths Who Rarely Wear Black
There was a time where you couldn't see a thing in my closet because everything was black.

I've been trying to introduce more color into my style. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I love jewel tones and those probably go better with my dark skin.

Anyone wear a lot of color?

Pics please? :D

Post Re: Goths Who Rarely Wear Black
I just joined these forums today, when I was a kid I was Gothic or Emo or what not. I felt comfortable with dark things, and I felt like I could use it to shelter myself. But honestly now that I began to see the difference between life and death. It is all truly about Color, Life is inside of color. When things die it becomes pale and weak, or it becomes dark and you feel emptiness. People who live without color never got much feeling put into them, for instance. Marilyn Manson is my top example, he preaches darkness to people. Pretty much he preaches death, instead of life. While people don't realize... there is a time in nature for Life and a time for Death. While we live, we are supposed to enjoy the beauty we're given. And when we die, we're supposed to rest in darkness.

Essentially, we are naturally supposed to try and live only because of the beauty of life. While so many people love Gothic things, it shows that they've truly never traveled to Earth and part of them still remains in the hollow world. I know there are ghosts, we are all practically ghosts with bodies. With that said, maybe people are beginning to realize that its much nicer to live without death. Especially the Syrians and all of the people out there running from their death.

Have you ever felt the sensation under life threatening choices that you may not see the beauty of anything again, and you'll be in total darkness. That is what gives Gothic people hope, and eventually helps them become more normal.

Please don't post such twaddle, it just sounds silly and full of bad psuedo-philosophy.

On topic: I drifted towards cybergoth a few years back, so neon is definitely a large part of my wardrobe now.

Well, I don't wear black all the time... I'm tired of that!
You don't need to wear specific color, just wear what you like, what fits well in you! There are no rules for clothing.
I got tired of wearing rings, wristbands and necklaces too! All I wear now is my earring lol

I don't wear anything that would camouflage me perfectly against a fast food outlet. I do wear some colorful tees though and have one pair of blue jeans.

I'll have a bit of whatever Doc is schmoking (don't sweat it Doc, we have plenty of characters here.)

I have no sense of style when it comes to clothes. So I wear mainly black. However, I like jeans, blue clothes (kinda 80style), I've got few brown jackets and a violet winter coat :D

So I'm not keeping black to desperately, I'm just rubbish with colours. Plus, I look better in defined, black clothing :P

White is a colour of mourning in China, yellow used to be the same in Spain. So I guess it's down to interpretation of colours of darkness.

Marilyn Manson wears lots of colours, he looks like a clown most of the time. His make-up makes peacocks feel dull. Also - when things die colourful species of fungus tend to grow on it. Trust me, my biol project did it :P

Also - people may also hide in "earth", light colours - browns, whites, greys and shady-greens and so on. So really it depends on perspective, besides - you may wear black mourning clothes or you may wear barely-there, leather clothes which lots of spikes that make you more than lively looking ;)

My wardrobe mainly consists of black. I get bored of always wearing black sometimes and I buy colored clothing but for some reason, they mostly just end up sitting in my closet. I incorporate burgundy and purple into my outfits regularly because I love those colors but there is usually always one article of clothing on me that is black. I also wear grey occasionally. It's almost like a weaker version of black. If you're into the Victorian style, you could always get a couple satin ruffle blouses. They have them in beautiful deep colors like sapphire blue and emerald green. White is another option for clothes. I think white lace dresses are gorgeous. If you're looking for style inspiration, I'd recommend checking out this site:

http://lookbook.nu

You type a search term in the box, even something vague like "Goth" and a bunch of looks will show up. You could also try something more specific like "Ruffle Blouse" and you'll see different outfits that include ruffle blouses or you could even search for a particular clothing brand.

Back when I was a baby bat, I tried to have an all black wardrobe; but my Mama put a stop to that. In a twisted way, I'm actually thankful for that because I really do like color and wearing black all the time would get boring quick. I still wear black, but not full out except for every once in a while when I'm not in the mood/can't pick a color.

I honestly don't know where the whole 'goths can never ever wear anything but black' thing came from. Colour has been important to the fashion side of goth since it began. I mean, you can look to Siouxsie Sioux and Patricia Morrison in the eighties as examples. Patricia wore a lot of white in some of The Sisters of Mercy videos she was in, and Siouxsie had a thing for reds, yellows, and really bright candy-colours at about the same time.

Black is pretty important colour in gothic fashion but you can most certainly still look gothic without it, and there are a lot of subtypes of goth nowadays which don't require you to have a purely black wardrobe( I'm thinking of ice goth and cyber goth as I write this). So...don't worry so much if you wear colours, it's not that big of a deal. I'd go as far as to say that a lot of the time the black is there to highlight other colours on the outfit (Like the neo-Victorian gothic outfits where there's mostly black, except for a splash of red or purple, for example.)

I've said it on Gnet before, but I used to wear pink exclusively all throughout middle school and the beginning of high school. I've incorporated more colours, but quite a few of my clothes are pink pink pink.

But now, honestly, I'm kind of sick of colour period.

I've considered myself goth for the past four years, but it has been based mostly on the music and the love of all things macabre. But lately I've been trying to incorporate more black, elegant clothing into my wardrobe. But because I'm broke like a joke, I still remain wearing pinks and blues and obnoxious yellows. Ick.

Nothing against colour, but I'm just kinda sick of it.

Up until a little over a year ago I wore a lot of color. Now I find it incredibly refreshing to have an all-black closet, it makes getting dressed a lot easier.

I say wear whatever you feel comfy wearing. You don't have to wear black to fit a gothic style. I wear tattoo and burned out shirts and long sleeves. <3 You can also try wearing neon, like a cyber goth. I always found them interesting. That way you have black with a bright color.

I have different colours and styles in my wardrobe, there are days when I just can't put on a black tshirt, when I rather wear my rainbow coloured tie-dye tshirt with blue jeans that got a flame pattern at the bottom.

No one forces you to wear black because your gothic, except for the people who run around spreading prejudice. I like colours, but I find black a very nice colour, so I have many things in black. But most of my shirts and trousers have a wild pattern somewhere on them that has colours.

cybers are cool, but cyberloxxs aren't every day wear, are they? :D black combined with one specific colour per outfit is a very nice idea though. More than one colour is difficult to balance properlly.

I am goth and I wear bright hippie clothes and no one will make me stop :D (ok, I'm not 100% true only goth...I know that myself, I've always been a bit of a hippie too)

You're right, cyber includes a lot of...accessories, but you don't have to wear all that. You can just like, put on a neon shirt and black pants. And I agree, the guys that think "OOoh ALL GOTHS SHOULD TOTES WEAR BLACK! YOU'RE NOT A TRUE GOTH IF YOU DON'T" are just posers...I personally think that goths are all about individualism so all goths are different in their own way and dress whatever they want, black isn't like...a requirement.

What I would wear is a neon pink crop top with a black and white striped undershirt underneath, black cropped jeans with a pyramid stud belt and black heels or wedges. If I had pink converse, I'd totally wear that. ;D But that's an example! What I like about black is that you can wear anything to balance it out. White is pretty limited, and so are blue jeans.
