Ok so one of my "deathrock" friends had a photo of a naked chopped up girl being raped by a black man... She says that she was a good person and meant nothing by it.. It was "okay" because she did good things for society. Can someone please enlighten me on how this is ok, and if all goths behave this way? I know some gorey stuff is cool, but not like this.... I hope

That just sounds sick and twisted to me. Necrophilia is not goth, neither is violence or racism (which is implied to me by virtue of the rapist being black).

It sounds to me as if this 'good person' was just trying to gauge your reaction. Just because she does 'good' things for society doesn't make her a good person... the tabloids are filled with stories about 'upstanding members of society' doing hideous things to others (both human and animal).

Gory is fine, in the proper context... scenes of rape and abuse of the dead is not ok in any context

As for whether or not this person you described is "goth"... I don't know enough about her to say. I wouldn't base such a judgment on her possession of a single photo. I'm not inclined anyway to go around saying who is or is not "goth."

As for whether that photo is "goth"... I can think of many more apt adjectives to describe it: "horrific," "disturbing," "distasteful," "vile," etc. But to call it "goth" just sounds silly.

And, if that photo happens to be anything other than staged Grand-Guignolesque theater... In other words, if the photo is an actual snuff photo, I would advise you to notify the police.

Well the imagery in the goth subculture is usually morbid, bleak, depressing, evoking etc. and I suppose the occasionally gory stuff is used for imagery, but necrophilia is where I draw the line, it's to goth, it's what mentally disturbed/less advanced people do, and that's what goth is not about. And I echo the words of Minty and Nephele.

I agree with the above posts, this is disgusting. I strongly feel this is not Gothic. I've already mentioned it before, but it's worth repeating; being Goth does not imply, nor require, an interest in mortality or gore. It is an old outdated stereotype birthed and perpetuated by juvenile and ignorant people.

This girl sounds like a stupid bitch, for a multitude of reasons. Why else would she show you something horribly graphic, and offensive? She knows is going to upset you, it would upset anybody. It appears to me that she's trying to hold it over you that she can handle it and you can't. So what does that mean? To her, probably that she is more "goth" and more "hardcore" than you. To me it means that she's incredibly stupid and tasteless. Rape is the most horrific act on the face of the planet, and death is neither beautiful nor entertaining. This is the kind of girl that gives other goths a bad name.

THIS is one of the better explanations I've ever read of what goth is about. it bears re-reading once in a while.

yeah i understand, but it's frustrating.. most of the deathrockers i meet on facebook are just plain rude.. are all deathrockers that way?

To say that ALL people of a certain aspect in life (musical / cultural affiliation, political registration, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, etc...) are all the same just really peeves me.

NO TWO PEOPLE, it doesn't matter their labels, ARE ALIKE.

So in short, no. Not all death rockers are like that. No all Goths are like that. Not all people are like that, etc...because to say 'all' is to stereotype everyone of that label/category with an overgeneralized simplification of the individual and turn the person into identical robots of some imagined community that lives without thoughts for themselves. We are not automen. We are people. We are diverse, regardless of what facets of our lives draw us together.

Are some deathrockers assholes? Of course. So are some goths, emos, bikers, christians, pagans, atheists, republicans, democrats, African Americans, Caucasians, Asians, homosexuals, heterosexuals, etc...

You simply can't generalize like that. Now if you're asking if that's 'normal' behavior for a majority of deathrockers or what have you- the answer would still be no. It's not. There are sick, demented individuals out there and you can't claim a whole- or even a majority- to be bad, just because one or two (or dare I say a few or several?) sadistic jerks want to make a bad example.

There are more people of high moral values out there of every category and label than assumed by many. You just have to get past the stereotyping and look.

I don't think there's any belief or society publicly known and acknowledged that focuses around gore like that. That is not to say that individuals from publicly acknowledged groups, such as goths, wouldn't be into that stuff.

Personally I don't find such image the least bit shocking. Hidden in the depths of internet there's "sites" and "content" so extremely shocking that such an image seems almost as normal as a walk in the park. One of my old pastimes was looking for the most shocking stuff around the net, simply for the shits of it (yay for the most childish reason ever made up). At some point I dropped it though, as the things I found started becoming too inhumane for even me to handle.

I'm goth, i'm on facebook, i'm not rude. There's always people who don't get what a subculture is about, or try to be cool by doing what ever the prejudice tell you to do. I guess thisforum is a good place to show people goths are nice and intelligent beings with emotions.

What you mentioned up there to me is just horrible and sick if not even illegal. And as many said before, i certainly don't consider it gothic at all.
