I never got into the sub labels for goth. I just saw goth as being goth with people just having different ways of expressing it. I dress like the typical present day goth(or emo which I've always seen as just a toned down version of goth. Why is there an emo subculture? Really, I just never saw the point in it.) during the warm months and dress more romantic for the winter months. Still consider myself just plain old goth.

Honestly, even though goth is the first thing people notice about me, I'm more of a geek than anything. Something that people always find surprising(guess the fact that there are female geeks and geeks that don't look like they came out of their parents' basement still throws them off guard.*shrugs*)

Different musical style, I thought. So it would be for the same reasons there are any other kinds of musical subcultures.

I'm with you here, and it baffles me. We live in the age of the internet. Yes, female geeks make up a smaller percentage of the whole (I believe that out of the 50 or so people that keep comic pulls at my comic shop, only three are female) and so can be harder to find when meeting face to face, but even a small amount of time spent on the internet should make it clear that yes, we do exist, so stop treating us like aliens.

I guess they're all just assuming that anyone claiming to be a female geek on the internet is lying about their gender or something. Which is funny, because geek guys being idiots towards geek girls makes the reverse pretty darned common, too.

Yeah, I'm just a ray of sunshine....

Actually, as I've stated at some point, I'm not a 'Goth', i'm just very heavily 'Gothic' in my tastes and inclinations. I come from a combined classical, world [especially Celtic and East Indian], heavy metal and progressive rock history of musical tastes, and only quite recently began investigating what I missed in the '80s and '90s, to my great delight. Doom/goth/black metal is my most enthusiastic musical discovery, and am now absolutely ass-deep in it.

But, just to keep it simple, peg me alongside Centurion as a 'Grumpy Goth'.

Don't get me wrong Jaylynik, I'm not bashing emo, it's just afters years of researching it I never could understand what made it stand out enough to get it's own subculture.

That article is just sad. I never felt the need to do that. Any game that allows me the option to play as a female character(even if I'm not fond of the design), I choose the female. I'm a woman damnit and I refuse to hide if from some ignorant men! :x

I'm in between being a casual and a hardcore gamer, but I'm proud to be a woman whose not afraid to pick up a controller and be able to kick ass while doing it. I pwn my cousin on fighting games and he's 2 years older than me. 8)

I am whatever type of Goth I feel like being in that moment.

Mostly however I lean manily toward any type of elegance and history. I love Victorian, Medieval, Renaissance, Romantic, Traditional, Gypsy, Industrial, and any combination of these.

Personality-wise, mainly Perky Goth. I'm always chattering happily along about one thing or another, and I have been know to hug people spontaneously or say "Don't worry, be happy!" when people seem sad. Sometimes though , I'm more Romantic or Traditional.
Music- and clothing-wise, a blend of everything. I don't think I could ever settle on one genre of music or one style of clothing.

Okay so I have been reading over this post for a while and because of my job. I was living in a part of the usa where there where no other Goths and I had no internet. There seems to be alot more sub types of Goths than there used to be and new names for old ones.
Like a Cybergoth is just a graver with less attitude and a Gas mask Trad was Punk Goth emo has been around for ever. They where called Moppy Goths and Steampunk is just goth starting to go back to its roots and the whole Vampire, Victorian and Romantic was just called Victorian Goth. Hell in the early 90s no one was called a poser for liking Nine Inch Nails. So for me I guess if I had to label my self I would say that I am a Punkgoth I also remember that if u did not write, paint, draw or have some other talent in the creative arts you where called a poser.

I am sorry if it sounds like I am trolling to anyone, but I am just irritated and confused. So if you feel the need to yell at me go right ahead I will yell right back j/k.

So that would make me a Seattle Goth? Does it make my husband a Law Goth because he works in Law Enforcement?
