Mama mia:
Screw the coat, it's too hot down here to make use of it: I want the cane, shirt, and hat. That is all. Not that I don't lurve the coat, but... I'll be content to <s>lust</s> look for John Boy's rendition of it.
As far as "less than enthused feedback": my SO agrees with me in saying Gene-Wilder-is-nightmare-inducing; at least he's looking forward to this almost as much as I am. Other than that, I've only heard a few people mention seeing posters, and their opinions varied from "Depp looks so gay" ( blasphemers!) to "isn't there already a chocolate factory movie?". Le sigh.

Some things I've been pondering:
Is he wearing coloured contacts or is that a trick of the light?
Did he whiten his teeth for this role?
Do you think the pageboy is a wig?

Colored contacts -- how so? They look brown there to me...
And if I may threadjack for just a second: I just found this. Yessss. Loved the book, can't wait to see him in it.

Lunamoth wrote: Personally, I have never liked Gene Wilder in the role. Ever. To me, HE is creepy and not in a good way. I thought the original movie, though much loved, was too sugary and innocuous. I just know the Burton adaptation (actually, who's writing the screenplay?) will not let me down. All the following information is courtesy of imdb: Writing the screenplay is one John August, born in Boulder CO (yay!). His other credits include Big Fish, Go, Titan AE (I didn't see Go, but I liked the other two) and Charlie's Angels and Charlie's Angels II (ugh--I thought those scripts were simply awful, but perhaps they were meant to be?), so, it's kinda hard to tell how talented the guy is. Want some trivia? I thought so: /div wrote: When he was tapped to write the modern adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it was revealed that he had never seen the original 70s movie-musical featuring Gene Wilder. Upon asking Tim Burton if he had should see it before going ahead with his work, Burton responded with a resolute "Definitely Not!!!".

So far everyone I know who's seen the teaser trailer has commented on him wearing fake dentures. To me it looks like his teeth have been whitened.
He's wearing a wig if these pictures are anything to go by:
EDIT: Links to pictures of Johnny Depp's hair and Oompa Loompas removed because they're all dead and no longer working.
Here is a link to a page of screencaps from the trailer, perfect for scrutinising the finer details of the sets etc:

Trick of the light then. In some caps, they look blue-ish, while in others they're the normal brown.

I SO want to see this movie. I'm a huge fan of weird stuff. Tim burton never fails. I wish it was a genre... films such as this.

It is going to be a great movie! TIM BURTON is the very person that needs to do this......i loved the First and Second Batman movies, and actually watch them over and over again!
AND FINALLY A RESPECTABLE TITLE! I agree with some other people on the site: FINALLY SOME RESPECT FOR THE TITLE! and like another said, the oompa lumpas had better be there------------> i hope they are wearing like long black trenchcoats and stuff.....cause that would be so awesome!
and Johnny Depp is the definitly the person to do this part! HE is a great actor, though...................would it be better with Christian Bale?
and to add to the end, BATMAN BEGINs is going to be a tight movie.....Christian Bale ranks right up there with Johnny Depp, and VIkTOR Neumann(CROW, BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF->which kicked major ass) as being one of those great GOTH actors, if thats what you can call them.........

Yes I think Willy wonka is going to be a big hit. I love his top hat. It's soo suites him!.I wouldn't mind just getting one just like his. The boy who was in "Finding neverland" with Jonny Depp also play's Charlie in willy wonka.
I think someone said this already but I can't remember.

ShadowofDeath if you look at the links in this thread you'll see that the Oompa Loompas aren't wearing trenchcoats or black at all. You can see in both the photos and the trailer. Anyway why the hell would they be wearing trenchcoats? ;P

You're welcome SecretTear's; though the stuff on the page under the Oompa Loompa link seems to have changed. Before it was just a single picture of an Oompa Loompa and now there's loads of pics of different people including some pics of The Corpse Bride. Can't find the Oompa Loompa though. Loads of Johnny Depp pictures and a clipping of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory:
EDIT: Link removed because it's no longer working.
