Personally I think its awsome. It's not just a slasher/murderer flick, think about it - regeneration.
He cuts off half his tongue and it grows back. He gets that gash in his head but by the time he hits the ground it's healed.
It's something to think about - I love films that make me think and that one did

Very disturbing. But smart at the same time. and, not to go off topic, but if you feel the need to harm your psyche further, I recommend OldBoy. You definitely will get more of the 'I don't know if I will ever really be ok after this' felling you get from Ichi.

I'm generally a fan of Japanese cinema, but Miike just tries my patience. Everything about his movies screams "Tries too hard...but not hard enough."

I love what I've seen of it, however I haven't seen very far into it...something allways happens when I try and watch it

Both are amazing, I have both in a dvd double pack.
Though the story slightly varies between the two, which is a word of warning I give.
If you like that, audition is a good film to watch to, though less contoerversial it is still an amzing film ^_^

After some repeated viewings, I have come to a decision. This film is good, but it does have some flaws (partly to do with plotting, partly to do with characterisation); however, it is visually excellent. Miike Takashi is clearly a cinematic genius, though I think he tends to rush his movies (given how prolific he is, its not too surprising). It would be interesting to see what he could do if he really took his time over a film...

I realy loved this movie, Takashi Miike (the directior) is one of my favorite directrors ever. I love ichi the killer and Audition, also I liked Gozu. I realy want to see Visitor Q, has anyone seen it and know if it is good or not. Takashi is like the modern american Quineten Terintino (sp) but with better ideas and more class I think.

I thought the film was great and I particularly enjoy watching Japanese horror/gore whatever. I've always found that the japanese have a good perspective on those types of movies. Ichi the Killer was a good watch because it's quite modern, up to date and has quite a good set of plots. I've seen a few movies by Takashi Miike and they're all amazing. I'd advise anyone who enjoyed the surreal events of Ichi the Killer to go and watch Audition. If you prefer yakuza storylines then go watch The Agitator. Both are quite good to watch, both quite intense, the difference is that the Agitator is a gangster film, but the storyline and so on is interesting.
I own a movie that is Korean called 'Phone' which is really good to watch. It's Korean so there are subtitles but it has a slight difference in it's energy/aura to that of a Japanese film. It's got a particularly enticing beginning and an absorbing story.
Anyhoot, I enjoyed Ichi, the guy just loves to smile don't he? And the way he cuts that guys face off is wonderful. I found the sodomising quite interesting too.
