Agent Black wrote: That depends. There's always going to be someone bitching about the little things. "That kid doesn't look enough like Armand!" "That guy was trying too hard to parrot Tom Cruise's performance." "Wait, that was supposed to be Akasha??" "The sets looked like shit!" How's that old saying go? "You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." Getting enough of the majority, however, by forming a well rounded group of fans would probably suffice. I mean, everyone has their own little complaints about everything, or they can come up with something. If more people are okay with it, it will persuade even more people to be all right with it.

They just need to stop, really. I more than likely wouldn't bother watching a franchise relaunch. All they could possibly do from here on out would be worse than the previous films.

Wow! Talk about synchronised thinking...
I have to say, I was going to take a slightly different tack to reach a similar conclusion.
While it's certainly a nice idea to give the Vampire Chronicles a bit of a relaunch, in the end, the only people really getting worked up about it are the goth and vampire communities (and I'm not even sure about the latter). Anne Rice isn't desperately good box office; "Interview..." - given the status of its cast - should have been enormous; instead, it was so-so. For those espousing the idea of giving fresh talent a go, that's - more or less - what they did with "Queen of the Damned"; how well did that fare?
I think it's one of the Eternal Truths of cinema that, the more money invested in a film, the more money it makes (yes, there are, of course, low-budget features which make bucketloads - but they're the exception, rather than the rule). HOWEVER, to be convinced to invest the money in the first place, studios need to be convinced of the box-office potential of MAKING the investment in the first place... And while a new property might just convince some of the more adventurous producers to stump up the scheckels because it LOOKS like a winner, a property which effectively is part of a "franchise" which has underachieved is going to slam coffers shut quicker than you can say "Heaven's Gate".
So, don't expect anything particularly brilliant...

I hope if they do go through with it, that Armand will get a bit of a larger role than he did in QotD

Re: Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles movie relaunch
Robert Downey Jr? With long hair, he might be passable. I haven't watched a lot of his movies (I've seen Iron Man 1&2 and Tropic Thunder) , so I don't know what his acting range is. As for Anne's books: I love them, but I find she spends more time describing the atmosphere or what kind of paintings are on the wall than focusing on her characters and the 'action' of the book. Descriptive, however sometimes a bit too much for my liking. I didn't like 'Armand' because of the pederasty. It's my least favourite book in the Vampire Chronicles. There's nothing wrong with homosexuality, but when it involves children, that goes a bit too far. I understand the period that Anne set that part of the book in was a different time, but I'm still a bit irked. Pederasty was one of my least favourite subjects to learn about in my degree in Greek and Roman Studies. Soo... disgusting. Additional comments: I liked Interview with the Vampire, and found Tom Cruise to represent different aspects of Lestat that Stuart Townsend did not in QotD. He more played Lestat towards how he is in the book, while Townsend only took the slice of The Brat Prince's life when he was the rock star and made that the primary aspect that he played. Queen of the Damned just as a movie and not necessarily related to the book is fine by me. It has two good soundtracks as well- the movie score and the what I call, "The Who's Who of Nu Metal, Plus Marilyn Manson's Along For the Ride" mix which when I first heard it when I was about 14 or so.... made me smile. Still kinda does, but unlike in those days, I now know the difference between what is and isn't goth

Check him out in the new Sherlock Holmes flick. It wasn't quite the Holmes from the book, and the film emphasized aspects of Holmes' personality that the books sort of mentioned-then-glossed over (like his expertise in martial arts; yes, Holmes knew martial arts and pugilism well, and while the books never really went into it much, the movie makes expert use of this particular character trait). Downey's acting adds much-needed depth and complexity, making Holmes seem like an eccentric near-madman at one moment, an unparalleled genius the next, all still seeming so in-character. orlok wrote: Additional comments: I liked Interview with the Vampire, and found Tom Cruise to represent different aspects of Lestat that Stuart Townsend did not in QotD. I definitely agree. Say what you will about the nut, Cruise is a damn fine actor who knows his craft, and I prefer his Lestat.

Re: Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles movie relaunch
Quote: I don't see how everyone else knowing about 'V for Vendetta' 'Sandman' or 'The Crow' could ruin them. The story is the same regardless of how many people know about it. The thousands of fans of Shakespeare do not take what is enjoyable out of his plays, same with Poe, Keats, Chaucer and Wordsworth.
I did not stop liking Tolkein when they made his books into movies. I think she means like how The twilight fandom ruined Muse for older fans. now when ever you watch one of their videos on youtube, they're clogging up the comment sections, talking about twilight and doing everything in their power to make things annoying for others. I think this can also be applied to Shakespeare. You can tell that pretty much everyone loves the play...But if you have seen movies like Letters to Juliet or listened to any Taylor Swift song ever, you can tell that most of them have no idea what it's really about. But when you want to talk about his lesser known stuff( stuff that isn't R&J), pretty much everyone you talk to will have a clue and you don't run into as many obnoxious folks. And for the best example ever: Closer by Nine Inch Nails. There is a good reason that while it is a very good song, the Nine Inch Nails cult on Vampirefreaks has banned all mention of it.

I swear, this song has been used for more fan vids than My Immortal. But as someone said before, I like RDJ. He's a good actor, but he is to damned old to play lestat. So unless it's Gothika, he can just keep his hands off my horror.

Really? I mean, really?
Didn't they learn their lesson from the "Queen of the Danmed" movie?
Besides, this is possibly the worst time to do this, what with the influence "Twilight" had over vampire stories. You just know the writers/producers are gonna give in to the temptation to make Lestat and Louis more like Edward and Bella.

Though I don't advocate the Queen of the Damned, I don't completely hate it either. I should also be known that I have never read the books and I don't intend to. I don't believe that Twilight will have the huge of an impact on future vampire movies. I doubt they are all going to go glittery on us because of a saga of teenage center vampire flicks. I also, after thinking about, believe it might be a good time. People are all over vampires right now and if they wait then it could mean the end of the 'obsession' and they wouldn't make any money because people are tired of the vampire idea. That is why I'm not opposed, and am highly looking forward to, Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, making a movie out of one of my favorite childhood tv shows of all times. They will keep vampires dark- as would any Ann Rice movie- I assume, anyway.

Not sure if anyone's seen these, I'm pretty sure you have considering they're old news, but just in case, and because I thought it pretty apropos here, the wonderfully done IWTV dolls by Paul Crees & Peter Coe: Version 1Version 2

Re: Anne Rice Vampire Chronicles movie relaunch
That will either be a flop or a fantastic flick - I'm thinking the former IMO, that's one of the worst of the Chronicles to do as a film - they'd be better off with either "Blood and Gold", " The Vampire Lestat" , or tell Pandora's tale. Whenever I re-read the Chronicles, I skip the " Tale of the Body-Thief" for a reason. I fucking hated it. It just wasn't very good to me.
