Hi All
If i may add my twopeneth.. I'm not a fan of Rice as a writer- she's too flowery for me. I did'nt object to the sex in the slightest- and the stuff in Armand i believe should be taken in context of the time and place in which the book is set. Maybe I'm bias as I'm a big fan of erotica. What I do find taxing is the endless Christianity/ Kabbalah preaching (and the art history). I hear that Rice became a born again Chistian so maybe that explains it. I've nothing aginst religion per se but I didn't want it spoiling sexy vampire novels -hehehe!

My favourite vamsp are still those creatutres craeted by good old Poppy Z (who seems to have given up on all that in favour of cookety...shame)

Oh and my favourite Lestat was Stuart Townsend beacuse he was sexy in QOTD. I just didn't buy Cruise as seductive (to me)...

I don't think that certain aspects can be excused just because they're supposed to be in a different time period.

Robert Downey jr is awesome, one my favorite actors. I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, only because it has Robert Downey jr in it. He is such a great actor, he will surely impersonate Lestat perfectly. The only question is: is Lestat worthy of being played by RDJ ??

As for the Vampire Chronicles, I foolishly assumed that because it has vampires, and it's considered rock , then I will automatically like it.
After I practically forced myself to read Interview with a Vampire, I started The Vampire Lestat; after reading the first 50 pages I said "forget this, it's not worth it!" , and got back to Sven Hassel and Stephen King. Anne Rice just doesn't appeal to me.

The real question is: Are they going to give RDJ blue contacts andf blond hair, like Lestat is supposed to have? I don't think he'd look good with either and would therefore be an inferior Lestat. But we shall see.

He had blonde hair and blue eyes in Tropical Thunder (briefly, at the end)

Sadly, when reading this, i had no idea who RDJ was, so i had to Yahoo him, and realized he was the man who played in Iron Man.

I think that he is a good enough acor (not overly impressed nor under impressed). As Lastat though? Yes, i, also, do not see it happening. Mabe he wil pull it off, but then i cringe to think about what will happen if he does not. I hate to see a vampire movie suck (and not in the good way).

Editing to add :

I do not know, thinking about it, he may do alright. After all, i thought Paris Hilton would ruin Repo : The Genetic Opera, yet i found that she actually did a good job, and thankfully the movie was not ruined. Hopefully, i have underestimated his ability and he blows all of ours minds.

I think that he looks too olde to play the part they're casting him for. He doesn't look like he's 20 and no amount of lighting will do it, either.

agreed. He does seem much to old to play the part.

I think this just proves my theory that Anne Rice has gone 'round the bend. She's nuts if she thinks that even a "youthful" RDJ (aged 44) is equivalent to a 20-year-old man from the 18th century who was an aristocrat (albeit an impoverished one) and a stage actor in mortal life. He certainly wouldn't have worked out in the sun enough to be as weathered as RDJ is, before he was turned. He maybe, maybe might have looked closer to a modern 30-year-old. But I'm sorry, RDJ doesn't even pass as 30 now.

It's all speculation anyway. RDJ has several films he's lined up for over the next several years and by the time it gets beyond speculation into scripting, greenlit for funding and then casting ('cause that's the way it happens), RDJ will be approaching 50 anyway.

Personally, I didn't really care for the film adaptions of the series, but I didn't really like the Vampire Chronicles that much to begin with. The only one I ever really got into was Interview With A Vampire, but that was pretty much it. If they're going to make a Vampire Chronicles movie, I think they should remake Interview.

I like Interview With The Vampire and I extremely disliked Queen Of The Damned. Its the only movie that after multiple attempts I couldn't even watch half way through.
So I really have no idea what this will be like. But it would be good to have a new big vampire movie that isn't a mindless action film or chickflick.

I almost hope he's too busy to take on the role when it's placed in this light. I mean, by then there ought to be a bevy of capable, willing young bucks who could take on the role. I just wish that Heath Ledger hadn't met such an untimely demise-he would have done a fantastic job, methinks.

We shall see, shan't we?

RDJ as Lestat....
No way in Hell.

Now, RDJ as Marius, as someone previously suggested, that could work. I could see him as Marius in an instant, though not as big a smiley creeper as they made him in the film version of Queen of the Damned.

Queen of the Damned itself was a mess. It went well for the first half, but when it actually came to the actual Queen of the Damned...that's exactly where it went wrong. It took a turn for the WTF after the stage battle thing.

As for Tom Cruise as Lestat...it surprised me. Tom Cruise is the man that gives me nightmares. I don't like him at all for some reason...I can't voice it correctly, but I just...he gives me the heeby jeebies.

As long as they don't cast ANY of the *wilight crew in the new films, we should be good.
As long as they don't cast ANY people off the Disney channel, we should be good.
As long as they don't use radio hits as soundtrack, we should be good. (I mean, who else didn't love Sympathy for the Devil over the credits of Interview?)

I really liked Criuse's portrayal of Lestat because he pulled of the 'beautiful monster' artfully and to perfection! While Pitt did a good job as Louis whining about his horrible 'curse' that saved him from death. Is it odd that an actor can pull off the role of a narcissist?

;)
