Take a deep breath. It's OK. We all have crappy music that we love.
What music do you play that causes your friends to break into grimace-faced protest? What are the CDs do you sneak out of your music library during a party? (Bing Crosby? How did this get here? Heh heh.)
For me, it's Duran Duran. I can't help it. I love their lyrics. (And don't make fun! I know some of you have Garth Brookes stashed under your bed! :b )
Anyone else feel like coming clean with his or her musical shame?

cds? none, I have lost all my old ones, not that I can stand them anymore anyway
Though actually I CAN stand Garth Brooks, comes from growing up listening to his music, as my dad had every damn album
there are a few other country songs I like, for similar reasons, but nothing I love

I asked this question with tongue firmly placed in cheek. Most goths have bands they enjoy that don't fall into the "gothic" category, and might not be the best choice to pop into the sterio when throwing a dinner party for all your high class goth friends. Just imagine the awkward silence that would follow if you put on "mood music" for the evening, and your copy of Space Ghost's Musical BBQ starts playing. There goes your ambiance!
Besides, have you ever seen a Duran Duran video? Cheesy, mainstream, and so poppy it hurts. That's pretty embarrassing. (Did this stop me from buying Astronaut when it came out? Nope. :b )

Hmm, I suppose it is fairly embarrasing at times admitting to likeing Robbie Williams, Destinies Child, tatu and a whole lot more pop and related...but then again, I also listen to japanese noise, so I think I'm safe from "selling out"

You get embarassed too easily then if you think Duran Duran are a cause to be embarassed. Who cares if someone listens to non-goth music, and why should you be 'embarassed' about it? I don't hide anything or care what other people think about what's in my cd collection. If someone is giving the awkward silence than that's their problem, not mine and they can go fuck themselves. If you'er embarassed by your musical tastes than there is something wrong with you.

I reiterate: have you seen their videos? (What was the story with Bellhop Woman in "Union of the Snake?)

Wow.
Deep, calming breaths everyone. This was a tongue-in-cheek post. I'm not honestly embarrassed about listening to Duran Duran*, or anything else in my music collection (and that includes the Debbie Gibson tape I still have from the 5th or 6th grade).
The question I was trying to get across: What is the most non-gothic band/album in your collection? My attempt was to ask the question in humorous way, like you're "coming clean" about your copy of "Rhythm Nation." I thought the thread would be amusing. I wasn't honestly suggesting there's any shame in listening to music outside of the goth genre.
I am not now, nor have I ever been ashamed of ANYTHING to which I listen. In fact, if you knew me better, you'd know I have too little shame. ;P Mia culpa for my part in the misunderstanding, but seriously: deep, calming breaths. This was not an attack on Duran Duran in particular or pop music in general.
*For the record, I LOVE Duran Duran, and I am a proud fan. I buy their albums. I went to their last concert and purchased an over-priced t-shirt which I slipped on before the show started. I'm a dork about them.

LadyAttercop I see your point but there already is a your favourite non-goth bands thread anyway so if that's all this thread is meant to be about rather than what you're embarassed by than it's pretty pointless (no offence intended).

While it is true that we did have a similar thread to this one a couple of months ago, I see no point in nitpicking about semantics or calling the topic pointless (especially since many members did find the original thread worthy of participation).
If the mods find this particular thread repititive or "pointless," I'm sure they will close it.
That being said, I listen to a lot of non-goth music, much of which is surprising to those who have seen only the "gothier" side of my collection and some of which many people might find truly cringe-worthy.
But, to avoid repeating verbatim what I said in the original thread, I'll simply reveal that I have an entire playlist dedicated to Cher on my iPod and leave it at that.
