If you even have one, what is your favorite grundge band? Alice and Chains and Pearl Jam are my top two. (If this should have been set up as a poll, please tell me.)

Pearl Jam I suppose...more diverse than the other groups. PJ and Alice in Chains were probably the best songwriters of the grunge era, and their fans aren't all arrogant assholes (unlike Nirvana). I'll go with them...

Alice in Chains! Dirt is one of the best albums I've heard in a long time. Pearl Jam and Nirvana earn honorable mention.

I would say Pearl Jam. "Jeremy" by PJ was one of the songs that helped me grow an interest Rock in general. And the video for "Do the Evolution" was very cool!

I actually skipped most of the grunge era, but if pressed for a favorite, I'd say -- much like many others here -- Pearl Jam.
However, that being said, my award for "Grungiest Not-Really-Grunge Band" goes to Creed, as I had the privilege of working a show with them before they became popular and hearing some things that never seemed to make it to recording. The influence seemed to be clear, and frankly, I liked it better than their known work.

Alice In Chains. Without a doubt. Although Nirvana does have a few good songs as well.

isn't Creed post-grunge? (yes, their first album is very grunge influenced [and actually pretty good] but still it's post... eh)
and was grunge short-lived?

Corrected the spelling in the title so it will show up in a proper search.
Short-lived, yes. I don't think anyone's really "doing" grunge anymore. It's morphed into something else, something a little... wrong. Grunge started in the very late 80's in Seattle and carried on through most of the 90's, petering out as hiphop and nu-metal took over. Sadly, it used itself up, much like any trend that the media latches onto with the gusto it had.

Soundgarden and Pearl Jam do it for me. I'm one of those people that likes Nirvana, but has never known what all the fuss is about. I understand that different people can connect with different musicians, so if you're a devoted fan of Nirvana, please realize that this is my opinion and nothing more.

Yes, they are post-grunge -- or even "not grunge" or maybe "grunge influenced". Thus, I mentioned them as the "Grungiest Not-Really-Grunge" band (in my book, at least).
And for the record, Laura, I'm in the same boat as you. I like Nirvana alright, but I never understood the hullabaloo either.

I've written a really rough script about that song. I'm holding it until someone takes intrest. I still can't think of a title. Should it be King Jeremy or just plain ol' Jeremy?
1. A.I.C.
2. P.J.
3. S.T.P.
4. Soundgarden
5. Pumpkins
6. Nirvana
This is how I rate the top grundge bands of the time.
