Hi. Most of the people I associate with are not interested in the music I'm fond of. Therefore, I've had little oppertunities to discuss my particular tastes in music, offline.

My problem is this. Having never heard anyone say any of the names of the bands I listen to, I'm unsure whether or not I'm saying the names correctly... The following band names I'm unsure of:

*Bauhaus
*Rasputina
*Crüxshadows

I'm usually saying them just how they look, but I'm still a little unsure. So, at the risk of sounding foolish, is there anyone who could make this a little easier for me? Thanks.

I agree with Lunamoth for Rasputina & Cruxshadows, but I've always heard Bauhaus as "Ba-hose".....but i could be wrong....

...Shouldn't there be an "x" sound after the "kroo"

its because of the two little dots over the u, I believe its called an umlaut... the ü before the x makes it Croo-shadows

The -haus in Bauhaus is like house but slightly over prononced 'ou' making a sound like 'grouse'. But that's only if you're gonna be technical about the german language.

The way Rogue says it, it sounds like cruh-SHA-dows.

What about Einstürtzende Neubaten?

It would be pronounced "Com-Pleet-Shite."

:P

Speaking seriously now, it would be pronounced "Ine-shturz-ender Noi-bow-tun".

- trag, who still remembers a little of the German he learned in high school

Bow-House as in Bow-wow, not bow-tie.

Bauhaus is a German art movement, which is what the band is named for (originally they were Bauhaus 1919). So it's supposed to sound german.

Yeah, at the show we were at on Halloween he put more emphasis on the 'Sha' part, whereas I'd generally put it on the 'Croo' part.

Yes, Rogue does emphasize cru-SHA-dows. The reason being lies in the meaning. Those who were in the shadow of the cross at Jesus' crucifiction were generally the dregs of society, the whores, the thieves, etc... Those who one would assume are the most unholy, were basically the only ones there for Christ when he died. Those people were the Croo-SHAdows. (Those in the shadow of the cross).

---Speaking of the Cruxshadows, they are playing at my place this Saturday, 08 Nov, with The Last Dance. Anyone coming to this show should drop me a line and I'll make sure to take care of you here in Jacksonville, NC. All Ages welcome, cover is $10. Doors open at 9:00 PM.
