 What bands are like these?
Author Message
Post
HI,
I'm pretty new to the whole "goth" music thing. I've listened to extreme metal for most of my life, but the last few years I started listening to various other forms of music including bands that could be considered "goth". I know a few years may seem like a long time to some of you young wipper snappers, but I'm 30, and that's a few moments to me. ;) hehe. And where I live there's not alot of people who know much about ... well, any form of music that's not mainstream. It seems the last few months I've been in the state of mind that I listen to nothing other than Dead Can Dance, Lycia, and Arcana. Can anyone give me any suggestions for some other bands that sound like these? Especially Dead Can Dance.
Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the board.

This is the results for a search using the search button at the top right of this page for Dead Can Dance. Perhaps it can help.

You might enjoy Bel Canto or Cocteau Twins.

The type of music you enjoy is known as "ethereal" in case that makes your search easier.

Rose,

I don't know about you, but I am finding this nice thing more difficult than I thought. ;)

Other than the two recommendations Rose made also try out This Mortal Coil, which was a 4AD project that featured a variety of artists, including people from Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance. You might like other 4AD artists too.

Also check out Projekt.com. They're a label that has a lot of ethereal type stuff, including being the label for Lycia. You'll probably appreciate label owner Sam Rosenthal's band black tape for a blue girl.

Also check out The Changelings, they're currently signed to Middle Pillar Presents you might like more of the bands that are on their roster. The main Middle Pillar site is also an online music store with a massive collection, so you can find all kinds of stuff there.

There's always a certain poster who has an avatar of a child with a hood up...and didn't someone un-ban UV-Purple or whatever his name was?

Or you could just be really really mean to yours truly for no apparent reason ;)
